About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the whole world and learn more languages than my Grandfather knew.

ABOUT ME

I'm finishing up school for Medical Technology. That's pretty much taking over my life right now, and has been for the last couple of years. Over the course of things, I lost both of my grandparents on my father's side, both of whom were avid travellers and both European. My grandmother was from London area, with an Irish father and English mother, so that's always been a huge draw for me. I've never been to the Netherlands, where my grandfather was from, and I look forward to experiencing the country and meeting my extended family there. My first trip to the continent will be hugely exciting and I can't wait for all the experiences. I really look forward to meeting new people and have made some great contacts on previous visits overseas. I also have various writing projects I hope to continue working on, but we'll see how that ends up.

Once I get back, it's time to do the responsible thing, get a job, pay loans, and settle down a bit. Not totally though, I'm hoping to get a job travelling as a tech working in various places for a few months at a time and moving on until I find a place I really want to be.

As for family, I have my mom here in Oregon and my dad's a travelling nurse. My sister will be a great travel companion when we overlap in France and the UK before she goes back to school herself. I've got two cats, who I love, and will miss in the 6 months I'm gone.

I answer pretty much any direct question, which people find funny about me. And I find it fun because of how much people misjudge on first site and how surprised people can be if you just answer honestly.

I look forward to meeting many of you!!

PHILOSOPHY

We can't wait until things are all set for us to have the lives we want. We have to either make our own chances or be willing to look back with regret. I have no interest in regrets.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm just starting and I had to move back with my mom to finish school, so I can't offer a couch yet, but I look forward to offering one in the future. I'll be happy to meet with anyone in the area who'd like to go out for a bit.

Music, Movies, and Books

It's shorter to say what doesn't interest me. I don't like most raunchy humor in movies and some independents are just too weird for me. Unless it's truly vulgar, I can't think of music I completely dislike. And most books I'll read once, though some are likely to be higher on the list than others. I love having suggestions from others, even if I don't like it, it's always worth the conversation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing moments for me was sitting on the side of Craig Patrick in Ireland and looking down on the valley. I was alone, having let my tour continue on ahead, there was a stream there and the day was beautiful. It was a truly moving experience.

I think it's the quiet moments that have really made my experiences amazing in my travels.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn the favorite tips people have for having a great vacation on a budget.

As for something I'd like to share: talk to people. You never know who you'll meet and, this may be "preaching to the choir", but some of the most important transitions on my past trips have involved people I met for only a minute. Listen to the world around you and it'll send you on an amazing trip.

For real skills, I'd be happy to teach people about cooking and how to modify recipes for different cultures, tastes and diets. I'm vegetarian, and the only one in my family, so I have years of experience with modification and substitutions.
