About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to drink from the firehose of life

PHILOSOPHY

Never stop searching...and always go to the light (unless of course it is from a hovering UFO or oncoming train, plane, or automobile)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I open my home to Couch Surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was introducted to CouchSurfing by a Swedish hitchhiker, Calle Cunelius, to whom I opened my home.
Since then we've hosted a family from Atlanta, a California dude, and two beautiful Aussies, a Phoenix musican, and a South Dakota soccer coach.

Interests

Outdoor Recreation:
Summer - rafting rivers, fishing, rock climbing/mountaineering, mtn biking, caving
Fall - Subsistence big-game hunting & some caving. For various reasons I try to satisfy all our family's meat needs through hunting - mostly deer, antelope, & elk. Then I brain tan the hides.
Winter - Telemark powder skiing! backcountry and lift serviced
Spring - Missing powder skiing, dusting off the raft and climbing gear, watching my kids play soccer.
All year long - listening to and making music with my guitar, reading, swimming laps, watching movies

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Tough to be all inclusive. Here's an attempt at a specific list(in no particular order).... Grateful Dead and most other more recent "jam bands", African Acoustic Music (Mali's Ali Farka Toure & Boubacar Traore; Franco-Algerian Rachid Taha), Bluegrass/Newgrass, Reggae (mostly roots, some dub), so-called Alternative Rock (Mike Watt & Firehose, 80s R.E.M., the Feelies and most of the classic grunge - Nir, A n'Chns, PJ, SG, Pumpkins), Classic Rock (Led Zep,Beatles, etc.), Folk Rock(Dylan, Neil Young, CSN&Y), Michael Hedges, Jack Johnson and his buds ALO, Have lately gotten into Electronic music (Moby, Avatars of Dub, etc.), Ozomatli (I heard them for the first time this spring - live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, outdoors in a snowstorm - it was like a concert in a snow globe!), Beasties, not much rap/hiphop, but honestly can't say I've really listened to alot-am I missing out on someone? "Classical" Music - Medievial lute music and Gregorian chant (let's throw in Tibetan chant while we're at it), Baroque - the harpischord on Bach's Brandenburg Concerto rocks!, generally chamber orchestra and string quartet stuff, Classical (Mozart, Hayden, etc. -- most of it is excellent, especially ripping string quartet stuff, Beef Oven? of course), Romantic/Impressionist - Liszt was a rock star! Tchaikovsky had some soul and could rock, Ravel, & others (i'm starting to feel like I'm taking a music appreciation exam), Modern 2oth cent. - they start to lose me, but Stravinsky is good and I like the psychadelic Charles Ives.
Books - yeah I can read. I read alot of non-fiction generally science, religion, or history. Fiction, not so much, but Celestine Prophesy really made an impression on me.
Movies - whatever my wife and kids get.
