About Me

I am a 29 year old Zimbabwean currently living in Cape Town. Pretty much lose my mind if not active so am whiling away the days by exploring the hiking trails of Cape Town - you should join me, it's beautiful.

I have worked in conservation for the past 6 years, initially in the Seychelles as a scuba diver - primarily focusing on data collection of various species of shark; my main focus was developing the Bull shark project. Mainly we monitored behaviour and numbers but often tagged the sharks as well, focusing on tagging pregnant females in order to learn more about pupping sites.

From there I became Expeditions Manager to the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project; a massive conservation effort based in Botswana but with the target goal of creating a national park in South-East Angola. Over 3 years we explored 3 major river systems that feed into the Okavango Delta as well as their source lakes in the Angolan Highlands. Working with a team of scientists from every field, they collected as much data as possible within given parameters for the purpose of proving the necessity of a park being established. I was responsible for the pre- and on-expedition logistics.

From there, I trained as a rope access technician and worked on an invasive species plant eradication programme on Inaccessible Island ( I know, the name is ridiculous!!!)

Now....Time to play. I'll be making my way from Istanbul through Iran, Pakistan and India. From there, just crusing South-East, no real agenda besides immersing myself in the myriad different cultures of that part of the world. I want to test myself and am doing the solo-travel thing. Meet like-minded (and for that matter un-like-minded) cats along the way. Signed up for this, workaways and find-my-crew. I don't aim to make money out of this but collect as many experiences as possible and meet those good soul-matching friends that are all around the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm couch-surfing because:

a) Guys, let's be honest and just say we're all trying to save a buck.
b) I want to meet all of you crazy creatures that are opening your homes to the world, you're awesome.
c) I'm going to be on the move for a long time and this helps me do that - keep the costs down, go further, travel for longer, experience more.
d) You'll likely give me such a taste of your cultural heritage and help me immerse myself in that world.

Teach, Learn, Share

Let's hike together. I live on Signal Hill in Cape Town and I'm building my knowledge of all the local routes. I'd really also dig to share some of these experiences with some rad people. There's so much to explore here in CT.
Or let's go snorkelling and swimming in Simonstown - African penguin nesting colony is there too.
Or go sport climbing with my crew if they are making the mission.
Or why don't we just grab a beer and shoot the shit.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a decent handy man to have around. I get a huge kick out of problem solving so I think I am useful to just help out around the house or garden.
I've been very fortunate in life and have some good stories to share with you.
I would love to just engage with you and hear what you have to say about yourself, your city, your country, your people and your way of life.
I'm a decent cook so let's swap some recipes!!
