About Me
I am a college student studying industrial engineering and computer science. I love running, mountain biking, hiking, camping, really anything outdoors, and am always up to try something new!
Up until now, I have had a fairly traditional college student story... I started undergrad straight out of high school and stayed in-state to save money. A little over a year ago, I took a leap and decided to drive 12 hours and go solo camping for a week (after having very little travel experience other than with family). Of course, it was fantastic, and I have since done many other solo trips to national parks and cities around the country. I've met so many awesome people on the road, and can't wait to continue this.
Back to my story... I had an amazing opportunity to work in Seattle this last summer. With my experiences from the road and living away from home for the first time, I realized I didn't want to stay where I grew up for much longer. I've decided to take a semester off and transfer schools for next Fall. I don't quite know where I'm transferring to, nor have a completely hashed out plan for my semester off... but I suppose that's why it's exciting! I would like to center my semester off around travel, while taking some online classes.
Update (Feb. 15, 2022):
I am currently on my semester off (technically part-time as i’m still in one class), and am very excited for my upcoming travels. I’ll be visiting schools that I’m applying to, and hope to make some friends along the way!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I recently joined CS, because I would like to meet more like-minded people during my travels!
Interests
I’m interested in operations research (optimization using logic and programming), data analytics, program management, and improving transportation systems and infrastructure.
Maps and roads. Highway structure/layout, software applications for different mapping purposes, GIS, transportation logistics.
Trying new things!!
- outdoor activities
- hiking
- mountain biking
- new experiences
- meeting new people
- car camping
Music, Movies, and Books
I have been singing in choirs for essentially my whole life. My favorite music to sing is contemporary music, and I otherwise love learning anything new and finding new composers. I also have a smaller background in percussion.
I listen to: Valley, flor, Glass Animals, Tame Impala, Peach Pit, Harbour, joan, Recent Rumors, Hotel Apache, The Band Camino, Arizona
Not a huge movie person… if I’m sitting still for that long I want to be in the car going somewhere haha!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had the chance to live in Seattle this last summer. It was my first time living away from home, and I met people that are now some of my best friends. It showed me the importance of living in the present, and the value of meeting new people and sharing experiences.
Teach, Learn, Share
Rock climbing and guitar are two things I want to learn.
I am pretty experienced in computer programming and most things music related. I am always happy to share.
I'm currently learning a lot about mathematical optimization stuff in school (things like transportation networks, construction logistics, trucking logistics, etc.), and am happy to share what I know so far.
I've also spent a lot of time alone on the road, and have developed my own way of living out of my car and finding places to camp. Always happy to share my experiences.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Conversations about anything! I like sharing ideas, learning, and listening.
Dishwashing :) And I’m happy to help with anything that needs done!
