About Me

Hello! I'm a huge nature nerd and will get excited about anything involving the outdoors. I work as a naturalist and teach kids how to do science outside of the classroom. I love to hike , kayak, read, drink, eat and be merry. Currently I'm living in the high desert of California, but move to Malibu during the school year.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking to see more of the world and explore new cultures and, of course, new foods. This has to be one of the best ways to meet people from around the world, and I want to hear people's stories and share my own.
I want to hear other people's ideas and gain new perspectives compared to the bubble in which I lived.

Music, Movies, and Books

Trying to expand my music tastes, so I’ll listen to just about anything.

I love adventure movies, fantasy, sci-fi, comedies, and the occasional sappy romance.

All things Tolkien, Harry Potter, and other fantasy novels in terms of books, though I also read a lot of non-fiction about nature and evolution. Any suggestions?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked as a kayak instructor in the San Juan Islands, WA taking teens on week-long trips where we got to camp out every night on different islands, cook our own food, and share the most beautiful sunsets ever. I taught them wilderness skills and leadership techniques to hopefully build stronger connections to others and the outdoors.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a huge biology nerd, and get really excited talking about animals in particular. (my instagram is kyside if you want to see what I'm talking about), so if we hang out outdoors, don't be surprised if I'm distracted by birds. I am more than happy to share some of the knowledge I've gained during my journeys.

I love having discussions about the natural world, good food, and on occasions politics (though be prepared if you bring up the current US administration, I'm just as appalled as most of the world).

I would love to learn how to prepare different kinds of foods from around the world, as I'm mediocre at best.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my love of food (though I’m a terrible, opportunistic cook), nature (hiking buddies?), and good company. I have a fair amount outdoors experience, so I love talking about that kind of thing ^_^

I can help with anything that would make hosting more manageable, such as dishes, and cleaning up.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland
