Overview
About Me
Nice to meet you! I'm Kyle.
I'm a security consultant in Philadelphia. I like hot sauce, love cool weather, and prefer living out of my suitcase. I'm all news cycle, no sleep cycle, and zero to one hundred on most things. I'm a dog lover and a vegetarian. I'm obsessed with halal food and escape rooms right now. I prefer dressing up to dress-downs and bus tickets to movie tickets, but if you're planning a Netflix marathon, save a seat and some sweatpants for me!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing has been described to me as about meeting new people and involving yourself in cultural exchanges. While I really enjoy solo traveling and I always seem to make friends along the way, that community aspect seems very appealing to me. I'm looking to travel around the United States and see how the rest of my great country lives; what better way to do so than to stay with and hear the experiences and expertise of the people who are actually from there?! I'm even considering writing a blog or a journal about my travels, chronicling the vast differences and similarities that exist throughout the United States.
I currently live in a tiny studio apartment. I'm looking to get rid of it and just travel perpetually. If I ever decide to get a larger place, I am definitely down for hosting! For now, I am not looking to host.

Music, Movies, and Books
I grew up around a lot of classic and blues rock; most of my homegrown tastes come from there. Arctic Monkeys and Bob Seger are the first to come to mind.
I've co-opted a lot of what I listen to based on my current language learning interests. I've grown to love reggaeton, bachata, and Spanish pop music in general (Nicky Jam, Juanes, Romeo Santos). I'm also fascinated by the Korean Peninsula, and K-pop is such a spectacle, it's hard not to love it (Psy, 4MINUTE, G-Dragon).
As far as movies go, I've been on a documentary kick as of late. I watch a lot from Retro Report as well as PBS Frontline. TV-wise, I've also been watching a lot of lighthearted comedies like Brooklyn Nine Nine or Parks and Rec or anything from HBO (Thrones, WestWorld, Veep).
When it comes to reading, I'm quite the newsletter junkie. I end up culling my email subscriptions every few weeks; I always seem to add way too much for me to read in a day. I subscribe to dozens of political news, tech news, and food/travel news outlets. If you haven't checked out Roads & Kingdoms, do it! Great intersection between food, travel, and world politics.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was a sophomore/junior in college, I studied abroad in Mexico for several months. I decided I loved being abroad so much, I never went back to campus. I switched to online classes and began a year-plus-long journey throughout Latin America. I tried grasshoppers in Oaxaca, mixed concrete to build homes in Nicaragua, went searching for sloths in the forests of Panama, was in Brazil around the Rio 2014 World Cup, and even worked for the Colombian government in Medellín as a cybersecurity intern!
