À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Explore. Live. Learn. Umm...oh yeah, and have fun, but that should be filed under "live".

ABOUT ME

I am currently an exploration geologist, and working about two hours North of Fairbanks, Alaska, in a census designated area called Livengood. I also happen to live there during the working months, in a camp consisting of about 130 people (the number fluctuates throughout the year). As you can imagine, there isn't much to do at this camp except work, read and sleep. It gets too cold during the winter months to operate fully, so most people leave for about 3 months and do their own thing. I try to travel and explore the world with this time off.
I figure there is no better experience than seeing the world, and especially while I still have my youth and mobility, I need to take advantage of what the world has to offer.
I like to consider myself open-minded, original, and spontaneous. I am quick to make friends and do not hold back, so prepare for some pretty intense conversations and having a lot of incredibly interesting experiences with me. Life certainly isn't boring with me, but not too wild that you'll end up in jail or in a too-uncomfortable situation.
I love geology and I love what I do for a living. My father taught me that that is what every human should strive for in life, so I view my current status as a great success, and for that I am extremely thankful.
Geology is my passion, but skiing is right up there with it. I keep telling myself that I will become a ski bum for a year, and it looks like that year is approaching fast. I LOVE skiing, and if I don't get at least 30 days of skiing in a winter, I feel at a loss.

PHILOSOPHY

This is a really loaded topic...I guess my personal philosophy is: Enjoy. Enjoy life, enjoy learning, enjoy experiencing, yeah, enjoy, or at least try to enjoy, everything or else life will kind of suck.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by going abroad and (hopefully) staying on people's couches! I don't have much to offer besides my company and long discussions. I love talking with and learning things about people, especially when it pertains to something deep, philosophical, or the Earth (I am a geologist, after all).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have lived with multiple roommates who have used couch surfing, and have indirectly hosted multiple surfers on our couch. So while I personally have not accepted or declined anyone on the website, I have still hosted people.

Centres d'intérêt

Geology, Skiing, Longboarding, rock climbing, scuba diving, relaxing, really anything, especially things that are new to me. Learning about others and their cultures. Visiting museums is great. Oh, and I like going out at night. Partying is always a blast.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Well, I pretty much listen to basically everything but country. And folk. I would say my my biggest genre in my library is rap/hip hop and electronica, with a good amount of rock...mostly classic rock, though.

I almost exclusively read Sci Fi novels, and a lot, too, so there are almost too many favorite books to count. Some of my favorite authors are Orson Scott Card and Larry Niven. Ender's Game was actually the book that got me into Sci Fi, so I respect that book like no other. I also delve into more scientific books, like "Understand Earth", and this crazy book which I forget the name of but tries to scientifically understand why God could exist, which is a pretty crazy concept.

Movies: Oh, I love sci fi, action adventure, westerns, and just crazy movies that make me think a lot. My favorites are vast and varied, but among the top are Inside Man, The 5th Element, The Good The Bad and The Ugly...so many to name!

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

One time when I was a kid in grade school, me and my friend were eating and I dropped my fork. Without even looking at it my friend caught it while it was falling. It was probably the most incredible thing I've ever seen off the top of my head.

The most incredible thing I've done is probably be out in -30 degree weather in Alaska with only a t-shirt on. Pretty ballin' if I say so myself.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can share my experiences from my life and my knowledge I have learned. Geology is a great topic to ask me about, but I usually have something to say for any topic.

What I want to learn...everything. I'm open to everything and anything and would love whatever you have to offer.
