Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently on a Summer climbing road trip in the American West. At the moment, I'm in Lander, WY. After this, I'll head to SLC and then to Joe's Valley near Orangeville. Then it's Moab, Rifle, Denver, then start heading back East!

I am pulling a small teardrop camper, so I have my own sleeping accommodations. My main goal is to reach out to as many locals as possible to make new connections and continue building a network of good friends across the country!

Look forward to meeting some of you along the way! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My friend Brett Butler, who is also a member of this site, and I, recently took a road trip to Crested Butte, CO to go skiing. Our entire journey we stayed with people through couchsurfing.com.

My first CS experience was on a Winter cross-country road trip to go skiing in Crested Butte, CO. We stayed with a woman named Mary in St. Louis, a nice couple named Garrison and Elena in Gunnison, CO, and two very nice young men named Paul and Brandon who lived in a yoga Ashram just North of Gunnison.

Our experience was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!

Recently I've gotten back into active participation! Admittedly I was initially reluctant to pay for use of this service, after it being free of cost for so many years. I inevitably decided that it was totally worth it, and that I love the CS mission to provide travels with a resource to be able to connect outside of the confines of capitalism.

Interests

Rock Climbing- This is my #1 love! I have been traveling this Summer solo for 3 months around CO, UT, and WY enjoying the wonderful cool temps, low humidity, and vibrant communities.

Skiing- I miss you! I used to ski avidly, and worked at Mammoth Mountain, CA for two Winter seasons.

Culinary Arts- I LOVE to cook. I am passionate about the chemistry of cooking, as well as using local, organic, seasonally-appropriate ingredients whenever possible.

Music- I have played guitar and sang ever since I was about 9 years old. In middle school, I picked up percussion instruments in Band class, and shortly thereafter got a drum kit and learned to play rock style. I also dabble with bass guitar and piano, although I wouldn't call myself an expert at either!

Movies- I love film. I enjoy critiquing the technical elements of acting, screenwriting, editing, lighting, cinematography, etc. Film is such a powerful medium for story!

Hiking- Nowadays I mostly hike on my way to a climbing area. Still, I will always love walking in the woods. There is such a powerful serenity in that state for me.

Science- I'm a huge proponent of the scientific method as a mode of inquiry. I especially love social sciences, but also am drawn to Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. I also am passionate about neuroscience and did a Psych minor with said emphasis.

Spirituality- I love things like yoga and meditation that draw us inward and give insight into some of the more subtle aspects of human consciousness. I don't especially subscribe to the "woo-woo" or "new age" type stuff, however; to me, it's often a disingenuous form of virtue-signaling.

Philosophy- I love thinking! I love discussion of existentialism, epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, logic, aesthetics, you name it!

Community- I love human connection. It fills my cup mire than anything. :)
