About Me

I live in Launceston with my daughter (11) and son (8) who live with their father half the time. I work full time and enjoy travelling, eating out, cooking, exploring new places and spending time with friends and family.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During my twenties I travelled a lot and spent 5 years living in Europe. While I now have the occasional holiday my life is spent mainly at home with my children and the opportunities to meet interesting wandering gypsies (like me in a past life) from around the globe are more limited these days. Couch surfing seems like a way to bring the travelling to me. Also I have many fabulous memories of people being hospitable to me around the world and this seems like a great way to repay the favour.

Interests

I love learning about people and relationships and how different cultures have different aspects and views about the way we should interact and live. I've learnt to scuba dive and love being under water. I enjoy cooking for people and sharing food and wine and stories. I love dancing and am learning to Salsa. I enjoy writing and ... maybe I will one day publish a book. Most of all I love being with my children and learning every day from them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all different kinds of music, and I love dancing. Books these days are mainly history and biographies about people who have influenced others and our world . I love a good comedy but especially like movies that leave me thinking, such as American Beauty, Crash and Blue Jasmine. I watched Searching for Sugar Man recently and now want to go to a Rodriguez concert in South Africa!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I feel blessed that I have been able to do many amazing things in my life. Probably my most profound travelling experience was to Morocco, because it was the first country where I didn't just feel I was on vacation, it taught me to understand what travelling was and was about. It left me with a wanderlust for more. The experiences I had in that beautiful and challenging country gave me the gift of resilience, and a desire to never stop travelling, geographically and spiritually.

Teach, Learn, Share

We never stop learning, about the world and about ourselves. We travel because we need to, because distance and difference are the secret tonic of creativity. When we get home, home is still the same. But something in our mind has been changed, and that changes everything.
