About Me

My name is Kyrill, like the alphabet, and I am a person with four hearts. One lies far away from me in Bulgaria, the land that gave me half of my family; another rests here in Germany, where I was born. Another of the four hearts hides in sound, split between languages and music, which is a great passion of mine and also what I study at university. The last heart, though more hidden, is the one I share with every person I meet – it belongs to my friends, my loves, and the souls I encounter along the way. I am a person of routines that help me achieve my goals. I wake up very early, before the sun rises, and try to fill every moment of my day with different disciplines. Food is another important aspect of my life. More than just sustenance, it's a ritual – a ritual of experimentation and sociability that helps me connect with people and their cultures. I couldn't say more about myself; the rest is to be discovered in real life or to be read in the following.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

1. I am full of desire to explore many different Places in the World, whether through travelling or residency. What ever My interest I am Always trying to transcend regional limitations and obtain multiple perspectives from around the world. Thanks to Couchsurfing I've had the opportunity to connect with numerous individuals who have shared invaluable insights from their own experiences.

2. I believe that humans are innately solidarious as much as giving or receiving hospitality Is one of our most natural aspects.
Regardless of the purpose of travel, whether for spiritual fulfillment, leisure, or practical necessity, the assurance that travelers will be greeted with hospitality upon their arrival in a new destination reflects one of humanity's highest values.

3. Hosting helps me to discover new facettes of my hometown as travelers always see things with different eyes. Also I would love to be inspired from your journeys or projects.

Music, Movies, and Books

From childhood memories of radio concerts at my grandma's, Bach and frog sounds from my grandpa's CD player, to dad's piano, guitar, and saxophone tunes like "Blue Train" and "Freedom Jazz Dance," my musical journey began. Learning to read scores opened the door to classical and romantic masterpieces, fueled by gifted scores from a local music store. Encountering Sir Simon Rattle's DVD series on 20th-century composers introduced me to Schoenberg, Nancarrow, and Murail, inspiring me to attend spring courses for new music in Darmstadt in 2018 and later take composition lessons from Bozhidar Spassov and Maria Kostakeva.

Travel experiences also left a mark: Stambali street concerts in Tunis, tearful church songs in Rwanda, and tango and bolero music in Chilean bars. A special passion for Hindustani music led me to start sitar lessons in Leipzig a year ago, eager to explore this music hands-on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I close my eyes, I can still vividly recall certain experiences, even though some of them happened several years ago. There are phantom and enchanting encounters with animals: a black bear in Lake Tahoe, a roadrunner on a Californian highway, Alpine longhorn beetles during a hike in Austria, a sea turtle swimming beside the ferry from Palermo to Tunis, an Andean condor soaring almost within reach in the Torres del Paine National Park, whale spouts and penguins in the Estrecho de Magallanes, the concert of a chimpanzee group, perhaps kilometers away but clearly audible in the Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda, oystercatchers and plovers during birdwatching with my grandparents, and of course, a scorpion that stung me in the Tunisian desert. I can smell the velvety scent of Bulgarian rose blossoms and the woody aroma of redwood resin. I see a buzzing hummingbird with its beak in a Chilean Chilko flower, and how the vegetation cautiously transitions from tropical jungle to icy tundra during the ascent of Mount Visoke in Rwanda. I see masses of seaweed dancing like Medusa's hair in the salty waves of the Pacific, or the honey-yellow sand darkening the sky in a Sahara sandstorm. I see the endless abysses adorned with stalagmites in the Bulgarian caves.

What I can never forget is the joy, the radiance of faces during the month of Ramadan in Tunisia, or the exchanging of zgougous between neighbors on Mouwlid An-nabi, the lively conversations among composers young and old at the Donaueschingen Music Days or the Darmstadt Summer Courses, the cynically decadent opulence of the COP 25 climate conference in Madrid, the brightly clad Naples during carnival, folkloristically clothed grandmas bathing and dancing in icy January waters on Krishteniye Day in Koprivshtitsa, to create and experience the metallic lively sounds of Balinese gamelans with one's own hands in the Suara Nakal ensemble...

Oh, so many things I would love to tell, because only when you tell experiences do you keep them alive in your mind.

Teach, Learn, Share

Here's what I can share—although I'm not a master in any of these areas, I'm happy to offer insights based on my current learning journey.

1. I could share my musical experience, teach notation systems (European or North Indian), discuss what I've learned about composition methodologies, or serve as a partner for group improvisations.

2. I'd also enjoy engaging in language tandem sessions, where I could provide a glimpse into the Cyrillic or Arabic writing systems.

3. Thanks to my Chilean girlfriend, I've learned about the Mate culture and could offer my own version of the Mate drinking ritual to learners.

4. While my knitting skills are amateur at best, I could teach beginners the basics.

5. Additionally, I'm happy to share recipes passed down from my grandmothers or learned from friends.

6. With my half-German, half-Bulgarian background, I can offer insights into traditions, stories, and customs from both cultural backgrounds.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer my host flexibility and openness to their routines, while also respecting their privacy and need for tranquility. I'll lend a sympathetic ear and offer empathy for any concerns or needs my host may have. Assisting with household chores or running errands for the host is something I consider natural. Typically, I enjoy morning walks and practice yoga both in the morning and evening, and I'd be delighted to engage in such activities together with my host. I find studying with friends using the Pomodoro technique enjoyable, and if desired, I can be a motivating study partner. Additionally, I'm happy to share experiences and perhaps even read a story or two from my journal.
