ABOUT ME
A Dork-of-all trades, I grew up taking apart everything I could get my hands on, teaching my teachers how to use their computers in the classroom, wondering why submarines don't sink and getting cozy with the Sci-fi section of the local library.
While in Oakland I made machine and fire art, and really enjoyed the scene. Oakland has turned me on to the likes of SRL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxzr6bd31io and Them: http://vimeo.com/12513385 (This one is shot in my old backyard!). Eventually I went to Burningman, and have been working with DPW, the setup and teardown crew, every year since.
More recently I've been attending Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, getting a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had lots of great experiences hosting couchsurfers outside of this website. Mostly friends from burningman traveling to or through Oakland. They have been great role models for respectful couchsurfing and I hope to follow in their footsteps.
Interests
The Eventual Robot-Apocalypse.
On a less violent note, I'm a connoisseur of hidden industrial scenes: abandoned train stations, huge machinery lying in wait for the whistle that comes each morning. Six freeways merging and reforming overhead speak to me in a weird way. Each a testament to the sophistication of mankind and the amazing effort needed to design such massive, interwoven strips of road suspended in the air.
I'm a geek of all trades, At various times in my life I've been a computer/datacenter technician, a machinist, a metal fabricators, a maker of machine art and an electrical engineer. I'm a huge electronics geek, I love to play with circuits, arduinos and and all manner of robotics. I dream about walking though Boston Dynamics shop ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRbvNL1PHKg ) or working on google's robotic car program.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm an avid Sci-fi reader, consuming all in my path. Went on an Ian Banks binge a few months ago, nothing like some giant floating omnipotent minds to take your mind off of things. Loved China Mieville's Iron Counsel, and Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars series. As to music, I've got a soft spot in my heart for that electro, Ladytron/Kraftwerk deliciousness. But my taste hops all over the place, Hank Williams III, Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Skinny Puppy, Autechre, Violent Femmes..... I could go on for days. One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once operated a giant metal articulated hand that could crush (small) cars. I smashed several washing machines and a refrigerator with it then piled them on top of the remains of a VW bus. I then threw up the horns: http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/13022 .
In the Marin Headlands (just north of San Francisco) the fog blows up against the sheer cliffs down to the ocean. When its so heavy you can see it blowing in the wind, I would go out to the cliffs and watch it hit them and jet straight up. I looked like a gray cloud flowing up, or a sky turned on it's side moving impossibly fast.
