About Me

Update - 4th of February, 2024: We have just become parents, our baby girl was born a week ago, and so we won't be receiving CS guests for a while. Even if we do, we will be a lot more selective in choosing our guests, so I just wanted to make that clear.

I'm a native New Yorker (born and raised in Jamaica, Queens) and of Salvadoran descent (un guanaco total). I've been bilingual in Spanish and English from an early age and now I'm trilingual, with French being the third language. I'm a calm person yet dynamic when I need or want to be, it all depends on the mood.

I've been living in Strasbourg for more than 5 years and truly love my adopted city. I also lived in Madrid for 4 years (soy madrileño de corazón) where I met my wife in a salsa class (I love dancing!). We live together in a spacious two-bedroom apt in Cronenbourg, a neighborhood of Strasbourg to the west. We can offer a sofa-bed that's quite comfortable and it's in a separate room.

I live with my wife and she's on here too, so if you message her then it's almost the same as messaging me. Her profile: Armelle Magnin

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet interesting people from around the world and to learn about their cultures as well as share my own.

Interests

I have a lot of interests and it varies. I love to read & write and I love art in general. In particular, I love drawing and photography, though I know how to paint and do it once in a while. I love sports, football (soccer for my fellow Americans) in particular, and am a passionate Barça fan (though I don't let it dominate my life). I'm really into martial arts and MMA and watch videos on it. I also watch videos on YouTube about history. I love science as well, and I can nerd out on some topics, physics, and engineering. Lastly, I definitely have my geeky side, comics, and board games, I love to play games of any type. Ah, and dancing, I love to dance as well as movement in general. Like I said, I have a lot of interests, haha

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to name, I'll save that for an in-person conversation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Performed a spoken word piece at Riker's Island Detention Center for their high school population (it's NYC's biggest jail), probably the scariest thing I've ever done.

Teach, Learn, Share

I taught English and Spanish for some years and I currently work as a social worker (éducateur spécialisé), so teaching is one of my strengths. I also follow a more eastern, Taoist approach when it comes to learning, I'll always be a student. I believe that anyone and everyone can teach you something, whether on purpose or inadvertently.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A place to crash; our place is cozy and we can host 2 people at most, we have a sofa/futon in our 2nd bedroom. My wife and I both work and so our time is limited. If we're up for it we can go out but chances are we'll be busy with work and probably want to stay home on a work night.
