About Me

I'm always looking for something new. I like meeting new people and learning about different lifestyles. I particularly enjoy learning about differences in social norms and lifestyles between my country and others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like most, I'm on Couchsurfing to meet new people and to learn about their lives and cultural differences. Hostels are great for meeting people from all over, but I desire that true local experience away from the tourist traps.

I look forward to being able to host and help travellers get the most out of their trip by spending less on accommodation.

Interests

I enjoy SCUBA diving, reading, and other outdoor activities. I generally prefer sports where I challenge myself or can work cooperatively with others, but often introduce friendly competition at unexpected times!

Bought a motorbike fairly recently and looking forward to a large motorbike journey overseas!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a dive trip to Truk Lagoon in Micronesia (not Indonesia!). Because it consists of tiny islands in the middle of the ocean, and only accessible via Guam, very few people go. Divers come to see the wrecks of Japanese ships destroyed by America in World War 2.

I was coincidentally so fortunate; the date of my arrival was the 70th anniversary of the attack, my dive leader for the week was the grandson of the founder (who witnessed the attack and mapped almost all the wrecks himself), and met the author of the book about the founder and the attack; she also signed the copy I purchased.

On the same trip, we took a boat ride to dive at 'Shark Island', where we dove surrounded by reef sharks with no cage!

Teach, Learn, Share

I spent a month learning Spanish in Spain which started my interest in learning languages. I find that too often I learn about the language, rather than using it and building my knowledge that way.

I can teach you how to lose at various board games, and a few choice excuses to use to prove that the loss doesn't count 👍

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm guest that can fit whatever the host needs. I don't stay out late on my own accord but enjoy having a night out with the host. Whether the host is a hiker, surfer, video game aficionado or armchair sports commentator, spending time with the person is often a more valuable experience than the activity itself.

I'm more than happy to cook for hosts or contribute in some other way, this is on top of fending for myself too obviously.
