About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Happiness is only real when shared

ABOUT ME

Hello, friends! My name is Lael and I want to meet you. I live in Boise, the best little landlocked city in the West. I am Basque and am in a Basque folk dance group in Boise (www.oinkari.org). I got the traveling bug when I joined this group, and with them I've traveled all over the US to festivals, as well as the Basque Country (Spain) three times, Argentina, and Australia for a month to teach Basque culture and dance. Traveling is very, very cool.

I'm currently working and living in downtown Boise, but my job is the standard 9 to 5 so I don't have as much time for traveling as I used to...at least for THIS chapter of my life (there will be more chapters).

My boyfriend Josh doesn't have his own CS profile, but if you surf with me, you will be surfing with him too. He is nice, you will like him.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life to see places that make me gasp a little bit, meet people who make me think a large bit, do stuff that makes my heart pound, and laugh until I get the hiccups.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

CS is such a revolutionary idea, and I am SO happy that it has been so successful. I do my part by hosting when I can, and spreading the word about it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted lots of people and have been a member of CS for a few years, but still haven't officially surfed on a CSer couch via CouchSearch. First time for everything, I guess!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
In the spirit of a true Geek, instead of listing my favorite or current books here, I'll just provide a link to my GoodReads profile! Haha.

Music:
I like folksy, Americana, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Rusted Root, Cat Stevens, Ben Harper, The Be Good Tanyas, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Josh Ritter.

TV/Movies:
I don't own a TV, but my favorite TV shows are Arrested Development, 30 Rock, and Jeopardy. Lately I've been watching a lot of TEDtalks and documentaries on Netflix. I don't have much time for TV though...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

worked in Antarctica at McMurdo Station, and visited an ice core drilling camp on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about Basque music and give you a lesson in Spanish, or make something good out of weird stuff in your fridge. I can teach you to play lacrosse. I can also offer up trivial quips and quotes on just about any subject.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belize, France, New Zealand, Spain, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
