About Me

Hello everyone (:

I'm Laia, a 23 year old girl who lives in a city close to Barcelona. I guess I'm a cheerful, openmided, tolerant and curious girl that loves meeting new people ! Hoping to travel abroad Europe soon and discover new cultures and living new experiences!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I am a student my economy is quite poor, so I can't afford staying in hostels everynight. But that's not the main reason why I have decided to join Couchsurfing. In fact, I have decided to be part of this incredible project because it can be a very interesting way to meet new people, discovering in a diferent way new cultures and getting in touch with people with similar interests than mine!

As I'm living with my parents in a very small apartment I can't host anyone but anyway I would really enjoy meeting some couchsurfers and showing them Barcelona (: While I was traveling in Estonia and Lithuania I met some people who showed me their cities and I guess that visiting a city accompained with locals is the best!

Interests

My favourite hobby is reading. I have studied Humanities (a degree which is a mix of Art, History, Philosophy and Literature) ,specialized in Literature! I could be the happiest person in the world only with a good book... I love them!

Moreover, I really love discovering new cultures. When I finish my degree surely I'll start studying Anthropology. It would be really interesting being conscious of the diversity of people, traditions, habits, etc. that is on planet! Due to this, another of my hobbies is traveling. Until now I have only visited european countries but I don't want to be so eurocentric so I'm planning a big travel across Latin America... that's my next project and my most expected desire!

Another important interest of mine that I haven't mentioned is feminism. This ideology has given to me so many good things and I deeply believe that everybody should defend it!!! Finding a feminist host would be amazing, definitely.

I have other interests, but I don't want to write a Bible here! Maybe I would remark debating aboud politics (I'm very interested in it), hanging out with friends, eating and also being close to nature!

Music, Movies, and Books

Although I can listen and dance almost all types of music, the kind of music that I really love is calm, unhurried and, very often, with protest lyrics.
I can't decide which singer or band is my favourite but maybe Leonard Cohen, Bon Iver, Nina Simone, Sílvia Pérez Cruz (spanish), Paco Ibáñez (spanish), Mercedes Sosa or Violeta Parra are the one that I listen the most! Currently, I'm very addicted to this song: songs --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH3Fx41Jpl4

To me, is impossible to decide which book is my favourite. I have read a lot, but I think that I haven't found the "one" so I'll have to continue reading(: But I must say that Gabriel García Marquez's books are incredible, the same as the ones of the spanish poet Miguel Hernández, Federico García Lorca or the feminist poetess Maria Mercè Marçal...Recently I have read "Dirty Hands" by J.P Sartre and I guess that I could add it to my top books list (;

Until 2 years ago I hadn't been very enthusiatic about cinema, but now I really enjoy watching movies. In fact, I'm very fan of "La vie d'Adèle", is my favourite film and I think that any other movie will be able to replace it because it has been a revelation to me!!! I also love Richard Linklater's movies, specially "Before sunrise" and I'm also very fan of "Searching for sugar man" documentary.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know, maybe joining and becoming part of an antihomophobic, antiracist and feminist collective of my hometowon, being an activist of Amnesty International and also becoming vegetarian more than 4 ago. Definitely, these three things are the most amazing things that I have done and the things that I'm most very proud of (:

Three years ago I traveled alone around the Baltics. It was my first time traveling by my own and completely alone and it was an amazing experience that I'll repeat. But the thing that I enjoyed the most was meeting host and couchsurfers... I love CS, is the best thing in the world! Thanks to all my hosts (specially to that sweet portuguese girl and my beloved lithuanian woman.. you rock!)

Ah! I lived during 6 month in Porto, sharing an amazing house with 20 more people.... It was crazy but those months were the happiest of my life!
Another amazing thing that I've done is having between my hands some manuscripts poems of a very talented and famous catalan poet: Josep Carner. I'm a poetry lover so imagine me... I was very excited (almost cry)!

Teach, Learn, Share

As I love the Letter world in general, I'll be very pleased teaching you Spanish or Catalan, the languages that I'm most fluent in. Maybe I could talk you about Spain history... above all about the historic context in the XX century (IIRepublic, the Civil War, the Fascist Dictatorship...). Spain's history is very interesting so, if you want, we can talk about it!

Moreover, talking about feminism could be a very interesting thing to do! I'm very interested on it and this movement has given to me so many positive consequences that we could really enjoy talking about this incredible ideology! We could also talk about Spain or Catalonia and maybe I could teach you some of our traditions because, although it seems unbelievalbe, Spain is not only flamenco music, sun, bull rides, paella, beach and "siesta" time!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a very normal girl, so what I could share with hosts could be my life's experiencies! I'm only 24 but I have lived an intense life so you won't get bored with me (:
We could share interesting debates and chats. I don't have an excelent English level but it is quite good (at least we could keep a fluent dialogue ) so I'll be very pleased to share some time with you talking or doing anything else: going for a walk, eating local food, visiting non-tourist places of your city...
