About Me
CURRENT MISSION
My mission in this life is to find happiness everyday and to be able to provide happiness to others. To look back and see that I left some impact in people's heart.
Besides, to travel, to experience this enormous world we live in!
ABOUT ME
Laïs, 23
I'm Brazilian, born and rised in Sao Luis, small island in the Northeast region . Spend most of my childhood vacations at this piece of paradise 3 hours away from my home town: https://www.google.com.br/search?q=len%C3%A7ois+maranhenses&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=HSoDVLODA8ay7Ab-n4DABQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=600
I'm passionate about the area that I study, Hospitality and Tourism, specially about new practices of sustainability in the industry and also the use of tourism as a tool for poverty alleviation.
I'm very engaged with social problems and dedicate my time at University and in life to that, either volunteering, being part of campaigns or just talking.
I'm veeeeeeery open-minded, love to meet people, to be in touch with other cultures, to learn languages and of course, to travel.
I also like to cook as a hobby, love French movies, indie rock, to see the ocean and everything from Brazilian culture!
When I'm travelling I always go to museums or art exhibitions, I like to try local food and eat in a good restaurant at least one day, to try local beer and to do as the locals do.
PHILOSOPHY
Im a Nitiren Daishonin buddhist, which basically means I just wanna be happy and want to provide as much happiness to the world as I can.
And respect is the value comes the first for me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm here to couchsurf!
I'm currently living in the University's dorm so I can't manage to host people but I'm soon moving and opening my place to host all those amazing travelers out there!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm pretty new on couchsurfing.
However, I've hosted many friends and friends of friends in my house back in Brazil without the use of the platform and always had great experiences.
As a Hospitality student, I believe the interaction couchsurfing provides is the newest trend that young travelers seek: to truly get in contact with the culture, locals, habits. To be a tourist without being a tourist.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The best experience I had was to work for TECHO, a non-profitable oraganization that build emergency houses for families on miserable conditions of life.
Also reaching "The end of the World" in Patagonia and seen secular glaciers breaking and walking surrounded by penguins.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can cook whenever you feel like cooking! Besides my mom petting my hair, cooking is the thing that relaxes me the most.
I can have long talks about BEER or Potter jokes.
I can definitely share GOOD Brazilian music, much different from what plays on the radio. Also Portuguese, if you are interested in languages.
And I can share my friendly shoulder, cuz growing up with a psychoanalyst mother made me interested on helping people and also a very good listener!
