About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Become a doctor. Start a family. Help people. Grow up.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in New York City. My childhood spanned the radius of about twenty to thirty miles around New York. However, my parents always had visitors. It was almost like couchsurfing except we weren't on this website and the people who came over and stayed were always a friend of a friend (of a friend of a friend).

Or my 'professional' bio:
Lakshman Kalasapudi is a queer Telugu New Yorker who is a student, activist, and traveler. His areas of interest are food sovereignty, social justice, and geospatial analysis. He has extensive experience in the South Asian community in New York and hopes to work with social justice causes in India and other parts of the Global South in the future.

About New York:
"There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born there, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size, its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter--the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something." - E.B. White

PHILOSOPHY

"Well, when I was a little kid, I use to put my nose right up to them [comics]. And I was just amazed because it looked like this mass of dots, and none of it made sense until I pulled back. Life looks like that mass of dots to me sometimes. None of it makes any sense, but I like to think that, from god's perspective, life, everything - even this - make sense. It's not just dots. Instead we're all connected, and it's beautiful and funny and good."
--Latter Days

Just for kicks: "I'm not evil! I'm morally challenged, you righteous little prat! There's a sodding difference!"
--Maya

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed and hosted a bunch and continue to do so when the opportunity presents itself. I've organized couchsurfing meet ups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed on about 19 couches in Western Europe and the United States. I've hosted about the same number of people in New York, Winnipeg, and Baltimore. I hope to surf and host more in the future.

Aside from surfing and hosting, I've made a bunch of great friends from around the world because of couchsurfing. And I've gotten a few of my friends from home to join.
