About Me

ABOUT ME

Why hello there, I'm Arran.

I love walking down the road and hearing street music.. laughing until I snort which is a rare occasion that you may be witness to at some point.. I am a big fan of the summer months, I always prefer them.. there's something just so free about strutting along outside in a tshirt with a blue sky above you. (Why I don’t live in the UK hehe.)

If you ever get to know me well, you'll discover that I'll do anything for my friends, I am usually a little late, but I'm reliable apart from that, that I hate conflict and try to be the diplomatic person in the situation. However, somebody is harassing my friend or I notice that I've been shortchanged in a shop, I'm not afraid to speak my mind.

Obviously, I'm interested in other cultures and languages - I'm pretty sure everyone on couchsurfing is. Although things seem to be taking a turn for the worst on here... I studied French and Italian studies in the UK and spent my Erasmus year in Genova, Italy. I completed a MA in translation and interpreting at the University of Leeds and now live in Italy (back at home in Swansea for a short period).

PHILOSOPHY

I'm still forming my views on the world and people in general. Which is a lengthy process and most people don't ever finish it. I think that if you have a fixed view about things, and a black and white sense of right and wrong, then you only see small part of life. Which is also why you should never only make friends with people who think the same as you. Challenge yourself.

We all have been influenced unconsciously by our upbringing.. growing up in a nuclear family, or not, having one parent, having parents with strong political views, no parents, sibling rivalry, being an only child, the school we went to, friends. It's just noticing what we have become as people which is the difficult part.

I have got very interested in mindfulness and meditation and the idea of consciousness recently, which has opened up my view of the world and how we experience it. It's strange to think that so many people are wandering around, not knowing what they're really feeling, running after things they think will make them happy and never knowing themselves or others. That is what mindfulness has made me realise and I am determined to wake up.

And amongst others: Don't hate the player, hate the game!

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading Sapiens.

Music. Any mopey blues song, various types of jazz, sexy sax, and soul. Clever rock. But then again a bit of house/techno or something when out is also welcomed.
I love music in general, playing it, listening to it, creating it and I love a fellow musically-minded person.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Flew in a helicopter in a storm.
Saw condors in a canyon.
Saw the best sunset ever in Valle della Luna, San Pedro.
