About Me

I was born in Louisiana as a Cajun, then moved to Indiana until I graduated high school, then a couple years in Texas, Southern and Northern California, Egypt, North Carolina, and England. I am looking to settle in North Carolina with my wife of seven years and three children. Graduated from the University of Oxford with a Masters in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies, and a Bachelors in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like engaging with other cultures and experiencing hospitality. Enjoy sharing and hearing life stories. Travel is fun when you connect with people and learn something. I couchsurfed in Ireland, Scotland, and Belgium about six or seven years ago. I had an old account, but I am starting new.

Interests

I like to be active, have deep conversations, laugh, eat, learn about people's passions, drink coffee, play the guitar, help people by walking with them through difficult times...interested in the Middle East, refugees, farming, have traveled from places ranging from Yemen to Papua New Guinea.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music that hits on the real challenges of being human and daily life. I enjoy just about everything including the stuff that doesn't quite fit the mold like bluegrass and Opera in measure. I enjoy Swing, Blues, Rock, and Folk especially, anything with some soul and heartfelt expression.

I like movies that make me think or focus on history or a piece of culture.

I like books about food systems, farming, building bridges between different religious groups, books that make me reflect on nature, and in the past I have enjoyed Shakespeare.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ate with former cannibals in Papua New Guinea. Loved a woman.
