About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Velo a Paris (join the group! join me!), finishing 4 chapters of two different books, good Sancerre!
ABOUT ME
I'm a mix of czech, dutch, and english on my dad's side and african, english, scottish, and cherokee on my mom's...both parents are english professors, and I became one too--but currently wrapped up in making visual art that attempts to parody and mock contemporary american life...I love to rollerblade, I love the French countryside, I love Amsterdam, I don't drink, smoke pot, or smoke cigs--except for an occasional glass of wine-- I eat organic food but am not a vegetarian, I love to go for long walks and have huge conversations--I really like people who can get into crazy confessional/political/artistic scenes...I am a raving leftist, but you don't have to agree with me--in fact, sometimes its more fun when we don't agree but can still have great conversations...
PHILOSOPHY
well, I'm attracted to Nietzsche but struggling to be more like the Dalai Lama...it's a hard one...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
just started
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
great experiences running into all sorts of people, mostly in France, and then just getting taken in by them for a few days to a week...wonderful fun...Not officially via CS, NB-just the old style couch surfing french-style, which is people "inviting" you--not to hit on, (well maybe sometimes, but I never ended up there)--but just to talk and share experiences. So far, I've never officially couch surfed or hosted yet, but I'd love to--

Music, Movies, and Books
heidegger, baudelaire, beckett, theocritus, james joyce, james baldwin, foucault, gertrude stein, henry james, french pop, anything arabic for music, jazz, /dj rupture. Movies--pretty much all movies, but especially political documentaries, italian neo realism, pretty wide ranging interests...I will see virtually any French movie, and I have a weakness for trashy American action movies with lots of violence and high-tech gadgets.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
tiny island off the coast of france, the ile de batz, where a man in his seventies spoke breton to me. It sounded like the language of elves--this ancient celtic nearly dead language spoken on this tiny isolated island off the coast, not even near any large cities. It was a short but sublime moment.
