About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to say yes to life, to play and explore and have fun and challenge myself.

ABOUT ME

Here are some things that make me happy: Sunsets, sunrises, having enough discipline to get up early enough to watch the sunrise, tea, lo-o-o-ong hikes, imagining being able to go back to caveman times and bring some modern conveniences with me to blow those cavemen's minds, flying dreams, seeing things with new eyes, dancing, wry humor, skipping stones (I'm not especially good at this), having very small but delightful conversations with total strangers, thunder storms, thinking of how big the universe is and how small we are, thinking of how big we are and the billions of universes inside us, rain when the sun is shining (that's happening right now as I'm typing this), thinking of people who are brave enough to risk their lives for other people, thinking about how cool it is to have been born on earth with all my senses geared to experience all the wonderful things on earth, realizing that there are always more things to learn and discover, like last week I learned how to use an axe (it's very satisfying - you need to experience it).

Things I do not like: when the hot water runs out, not securing the rainfly of my tent properly so that my sleeping bag etc gets wet in the middle of the night, dreaming that I have to go to the bathroom and then dreaming that I find a bathroom (luckily that's as far as it usually goes), rude and obnoxious people, cruelty, my own laziness, people chewing with an open mouth, littering, going to the beach and then the sun disappears behind a cloud and it's freezing.

I am lucky enough to live in a beautiful spot and would not mind sharing it with others.

Couchsurfing has been good and fun so far.

PHILOSOPHY

If no one is going to get hurt, don't think twice; say yes. People grow old when they start to say no and stop playing and being open to new experiences. Try (almost) everything at least once. Try to do no harm. Realize that this is your one special amazing gift of a life and you alone get to say how you want to live it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am happy to offer two bunk beds which are very comfy and make you feel like a kid again because they're sort of built into the wall. I live in a beautiful spot. It's breathtaking, really. I don't mind spending a few hours with couchsurfers showing them around.

Interests

Everything interests me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Gladiator, Fly Away Home, Fight Club, Betty Blue, Love Actually, Dinner for Schmucks (I loved how naive and beautiful the main character was), Amelie (for the same reason as Dinner for Schmucks), Out of Africa for the breathtaking romance of it all, Life is Beautiful, Spongebob.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Geez. I see lots of amazing things all the time. The other day I saw a wasp attack a dragonfly in mid-air and bring it down and repeatedly sting it and then bite its head off.

I don't think you have to have huge adventures to have an incredibly adventurous life. You just need to be awake and pay attention and let your legs do your heart's bidding.

I have not had a single day go by where I haven't seen or experienced something new. Just keep your eyes open.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to roll down a hill. I want to learn how to make a fire without matches or a lighter or flint.

I can teach you how to memorize a poem. I want to learn the difference between edible and inedible wild plants.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Italy, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

South Africa, United States
