Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I first heard about couch surfing through a friend. He had a surfer stay...and ended up becoming one of his roomates. I have dabbled in couch surfing here and there, mostly havingt an amazing time with my host, in a new place. I like couch surfing because instead of hitting the usual tourist haunts and hot spots, you are often in the suburbs of your destination 'where the real people live'. Your hosts will often cut out the middle man and you are shown the best places to visit and are able to avoid the tourist traps. Another reason why i like couch surfing is you will ofetn stay someone who is a local, unlike hostels where you will just mix with other travellers and soon everyplace becomes the same. It isn't the place that makes your experience...it is the people.
The best experience i had couch surfing was in romania. I was staying with two lovely guys in bucharest and they invited me to take a trip with them in the northern mountains where they had already contacted a host there. She was a 'mature' woman who left us her holiday home in the mountains...it was spectacular. A tiny villiage in the middle of nowhere, cut of from the city. It amazes me where you can find yourself with CS. I heard from another host that it is now possible to stay in Antarctica with CS!!!
I have had only a few CS experiences ....all unforgetable and well worth it...beats a hostel anyday.
I hope to return to Australia and repay the amazing kindness afforded to me on this trip.
