About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Survive the next few years and hopefully make a few new friends!
ABOUT ME
I am a student at heart but I also love teaching, sailing in particular; the "Ahah!" moment when the student understands the wind, waves and boat is one of the most satisfying things I have ever experienced
I am pretty good with my hands so I can build you a bookcase or trim your lilac bushes. I am a good problem solver and an excellent map reader.
I'm mildly sarcastic and I tend to make jokes (lewd ones occasionally) out of literal humor. I also love PUNS. LOVE THEM! In any language.
PS. I am excellent on a barbecue and love to cook!!
PHILOSOPHY
Do it. And enjoy yourself.
Also, I believe that one should be able to do what they can to help their fellow man.
And occasionally, I believe that more people should be like 'Lucky' Jack Aubrey! (Tell me who 'Lucky' Jack is when we meet up and I'll buy your first drink.)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have visited with a few couches who have shown me amazing times in Germany and Chile so far. I surf occasionally, but I am an active host in Santiago, Chile with a red couch and time to show off some of the local stuff.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've surfed a few times and have traveled with more than a few CSers who have shown me the great part of the CS cultural exchange. I'm hosting actively now and I enjoy it. The people are so different and while not everyone of us meshes perfectly, the shared knowledge of CS makes it possible.
There are both very amazing people on CS and unreliable people. My experience has taught me to have a back up plan or be prepared for a night out in the cold. While these events only happen rarely (people on this site being pretty reliable), be aware that not everyone on CS may be as enthusiastic about it as you are. But on an up note, most people on CS are awesome people who want to help others or meet new people and are totally worth hanging out with. Try it and experience the greatness that this program offers!

Music, Movies, and Books
This is such an open ended question. I like most books, movies and music. And while movies and music are of less interest, I will say that I devour books like a wolf does a hare: no matter the size or tastiness of the hare, it is never enough! On that note I really enjoyed the book Salt, by Mark Kurlansky, and I have read almost every one of the Sherlock Holmes tales by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. And I hate to admit it, but I have a guilty pleasure for W.E.B. Griffin and Tom Clancy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once raced a full gale with thunder and lighting down 70 miles of Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, USA during an overnight race.
The fastest I've ever been on a sailboat was that night and also the most scared.
Also, I have used an NYC MetroCard until it expired. NYC locals will know what kind of feat that is. I still have it stashed somewhere for good luck/memories.
Teach, Learn, Share
I will teach you how to sail. If you give me a couch to sleep on and a sailboat to do it on it would work even better. I can also help you change your oil or patch a tire on your bicycle. I can share my passion for barbecue, Texas- or Memphis-style and the Chilean Asado, as well as my love for curry and Tex-Mex or Chinese flavors.
I would love to learn about celestial navigation and astronomy as well as more types of cooking and food, such as wine & beer, or bread making.
