Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Learning how to live on what the land provides...

ABOUT ME

I'm a homesteader on Xwe'etay (Lasqueti) Island in Sliammon Territory off the West Coast of Kanata. I use the Salish Peoples name for this island because they were here first and have never ceded this territory. I also use Kanata because that's closer to the way the First Nations people pronounced it.

Generally I'm against Industrial Civilization as it has done nothing for the world except rape it's resources, enslave the people, and make a minority extremely rich.

I volunteer where ever I can because I believe if I support the community I live in, it will support me when I need it. So far I have not been disappointed, nor do I ever expect to be:)

My main focus for the past ten years has been learning how to live with what I can make and grow myself. I raise ducks, geese, turkeys, and rabbits for their eggs and meat. And spend a disproportionate amount of time in the garden:)

I'd like to believe one can support themselves from what they grow, but I have to admit I have a long way to go to become totally self sufficient, if that's even possible.

Other stuff about Xwe'etay (Lasqueti) Island:

-it's super easy to hitchhike out here
-I've got a spare bike or two if you need
-there are really nice beaches and longs hikes nearby
-I follow a paleolithic diet aka eat a lot of meat
-can't stand commercial cigarette smoke, but organic tobacco is okay, outside.
-it's your business if you want to smoke anything else.
-I like to ferment my own cider when I can.
-my own work schedule is open, but mainly I like to be outdoors when it's nice out, or curled up inside when it's cold.
-usually I go to bed at sunset and get up at sunrise
-want to connect with 'earthier' types of folks who are focused on restoring their land base and learning to live with what it provides versus exploiting it for all it's worth.
-people consider me an ally of the GBLT community, though I consider myself an ally of anyone that's oppressed or abused because I understand exactly what that's like.
-I recycle everything I can and pick up litter where ever I go.
-I use an outhouse.

PHILOSOPHY

Leave no trace. Better yet, leave it in better condition than when you found it.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently just as a host. I can rarely get away from the farm I'm on so this is becoming an awesome way for me to meet new people and show them a little bit of off-grid living.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've knows a few CS hosts out here where I live that recommended I come here to meet other people with similar beliefs. I've also met a number of the surfers they've hosted and always been impressed with their positive attitudes and polite manners:)

Derrick Jensen (my favorite author), Leirre Keith, Peter Gelderloos, Ward Churchill, Jack D. Forbes, and others along these lines....

As for movies, I absolutely Love John Carpenter's movies even though they are totally low budget:)

I've been listening electronic music for the past 15 plus years, though I also like Bluegrass, Jazz, and the Blues.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Skydiving:)
Learning how to break boards with my bare hands!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'd like to learn how to tan hides, or anything related to living on the land.

I would Love to learn firewalking!

I'm not really sure how to quantify what I have to teach or share but if I know something you want to learn I'll share it freely:)
