About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy Melbourne and Australia.

ABOUT ME

Hi! All about me, huh? Well, I think I've changed quite a bit since I started travelling, and I think the idea is to just keep changing for the better (hopefully) as I keep experiencing life.

Nevertheless, I suppose I'm an easy going guy, who has an interest in pretty much everything. I lived most of my life in Chile, although I've been travelling to a few places here and there lately.

I went to Law School for a few years, but frankly I grew bored of it and shifted to Network Engineering, specializing in Information Security. I really like it.

I loved my job, and had been working in netsec for about 3 years, but you know...to make things short, I realized I was on my way to my 30's and didn't really know the world much, let alone different cultures and interesting places.

And so, I quit my job (hah!), left everything behind and am currently travelling throughout Australia, after visiting a few countries in Europe and Asia for about a year. It's been a dream so far, I've met a lot of people and this is just starting.

The thing about meeting new people is that while getting to know interesting and different people from around the world, you also get to know yourself better, which is kind of the main objective of my trip - I'm slowly starting to suspect it'll never really end.

I love coffee and a good conversation, penguins and mentos. I also love random interests. I particularly enjoy philosophing about life and writing, when I'm in the mood of course.

PHILOSOPHY

You have everything to be incredibly happy in life.

Do the best you can everyday - that way things will mysteriously shape up as you really want them to, and the oportunities you're looking for will pop out of nowhere. This is not a theory for me anymore, I live by this.

Also, do what you love, not what others expect you to do!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've done some surfing and meeting people for beers. Hoping to have a spare couch to host people once I settle somewhere for a while in Australia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Brussels, Belgium for three days.
Copenhagen, Denmark for three days.
Penang, Malaysia for two weeks.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a week.

Interests

I guess I'm interested in almost everything (sorry, but it really is true), specially things that I didn't know beforehand (which is a lot I suppose). I love communications and technology geared towards it.

I love travelling, particularly the feeling of being an anonymous person in the streets of a totally new country. Meeting new interesting people is a passion for me now, along with pristine nature, listening to music, reading good books, attempting to playing guitar, animals (penguins!!) and enjoying life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Just about anything that isn't evidently boring :)

Music: I'm aware that it's pretty boring to say "anything really" but it's the truth. I'm very open with music, but I guess I always revisit Radiohead, Rush, Yes, John Frusciante/RHCP, John Butler, Jack Johnson, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Soda Stereo, Cultura Profetica, Massive Attack, The Who...well, you get the idea. Lately I've been listening to Bonobo quite a bit.

Books: currently reading Crime and Punishment and Introduction to Philosophical Analysis along a couple short ones. I really like Castaneda's series, currently revisiting the Eagle's Gift.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quit my job and left everything behind to travel indefinitely around the world!

Survived an 8.8 earthquake in Santiago de Chile.

Saw beautiful fireworks in the night at the top of a mountain in Brasov, Romania.

Boat Cruise through the Danube in Budapest, Hungary for Halloween, 2012, dressed up as a 70's disco guy (chest hair included of course).

Experienced a solo roadtrip through Ireland for a week.

Shared a night swim in the ocean with fluorescent plankton and a full moon in Koh Thmei, Cambodia.

Rode a bike in Bagan, Myanmar, visiting temples with +45 degrees celsius outside

Shared a lovely meal with a monk and several locals in a military camp in Yangon, Myanmar

Survived Bangkok 4 times, the last time for 2 weeks

Drove my little car from Perth to Melbourne, crossing the Nullarbor

Travelling is not about ticking off countries of course, but I do love maps. Here's what I've experienced so far:

visited 28 states (12.4%)Create your own visited map of The World or Amsterdam travel guide for Android

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess I know a few things about Network Security.

I'd love to learn about writing. Someday, I'd love to write a book or two.
