Sobre mí

[- Hey there. A lot of people visit Moab and I enjoy hosting couch surfers occassionally. However, I can't do that every week, and this profile gets many requests per week! If the timing works out I will definitely let you know. Otherwise, the closest camping to Moab is along the Colorado River off HWY 128 and the Lazy Lizard hostel is pretty cheap and a a great way to make friends in town. -]

CURRENT MISSION

To facilitate discussion and understanding about historic challenges facing the Colorado Plateau and the human race. Research & presentations on regional labor and environmental history, contradictions of tourist economies. Social justice and environmental advocacy. Also, to run rivers as often as possible in all types of craft, to hike with my dog, and to write incredible music.

ABOUT ME

I have lived in the Moab, UT area now for eight years. I work seasonally in a tourism and guiding capacity. I am also very interested in regional history.

I really love the river & I have floated most of the Colorado- Green river system. I also build boats out of inner tubes, duckies and plywood. I love synthwave and 80s music and our local community radio station, KZMU!

PHILOSOPHY

Government is a mess, citizens are generally powerless... We need to work together to change this and build a better world.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to couch surf, meet interesting people, have conversations with them, discuss life, the world, politics, the outdoors, maybe do something adventurous together (climbing mountains or floating?). While a graduate student I became a bit of a social troll, and many of my friends in town are so busy working I rarely get to see them. My long term girlfriend also work out of town a lot, and I enjoy having other people to hang out with. I also used to be a wandering migrant worker / homeless person and I have benefited from the generosity of strangers a lot before.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I decided to drive across the US for the first time (2007) I got in touch with various friends I had that were scattered over the country, and my route was based on where they lived. Stayed with my friend Barlow for 2 weeks in New Orleans, my friend Alex in Denver for a few nights, met a nice couple at the Rock Bar on Colfax I stayed with for a bit, and then stayed with a friend in Portland and Seattle. Later when I moved to Denver I surfed with my friend Jim for a while and also did some house sitting.

My first real interaction with couchsurfing.com came through my friend Chris who lives in Moab. We used to live at the hostel together but eventually he moved out into a house. I'd stay over sometimes while we were building a 16 ft cardboard viking ship to compete in a race with. He also was on this site as a host and I hung out with him and a guy he was hosting. The guy, whose name was Jason I think, had a lot of great stories about couch surfing and it made me think I should do it.

In 2010 I couch surfed in Durango, CO, while trying to find a place to live for the winter. I stopped couch surfing a while when I built a really nice house inside of a pickup truck. Now I am able to host surfers who may be in a more traveling stage of life.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

If you like hiking or camping out and you aren't a psychopath or a thief or a violent alcoholic hit me up. I have a friendly dog (2 year old female cardigan corgi) and we like to camp out, float, and explore things. I have Saturdays and Sundays off but I can also do evening and morning adventures.
