About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Getting re-settled in North America
ABOUT ME
We're a Canadian and an American who met in Japan and have now returned to North America via the Eurasian landmass.
Although we enjoy taking the sights as much as the next person, we also like just strolling around places that we visit to get a feel for what it's like. We're always on the look-out for authentic new experiences and often opt for the rougher "scenic route" rather than the path of least resistance.
PHILOSOPHY
We try to be socially and environmentally responsible people and a big part of this is our interactions with other people. We aim to be as helpful and kind as possible; our watchwords are mutual aid and solidarity!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
For now we're still settling in, but we're hoping to welcome some couch surfers in the near future!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've actually surfed only one couch, but it was a great experience and we think this project has a lot of potential. We're looking forward to meeting lots of new and interesting people in the future.
Interests
We enjoy learning languages, surfing, writing, drinking tasty beers and sampling fine wines, cooking good meals and sharing them with interesting people! And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Music, Movies, and Books
Just a sampling!
Music: Alaska in Winter, Yann Tiersen, Immortal Technique, Deadmau5
Books: Song of Ice and Fire, The Life of Pi, and non-fiction wise anything that lends a new/critical look to world cultures, government and social perspectives.
Movies: The English Patient, The Fountain, Fight Club, Withnail and I.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Angkor Wat (and the other assorted Wats) was pretty amazing, snorkeling with hammerhead sharks and lots of things that sting you in Okinawa, New Year's at a temple in Kyoto, Christmas eve in Bangkok.
John (along with several witnesses) once saw an egg materialize out of thin-air and splat on the ground. Ask about this story. It's a good one.
Teach, Learn, Share
Laura knows her way around camping, loves writing, and making art from unsuspecting things, and John has years of language learning/teaching experience.
