About Me

I go by my last name, Foster, and I prefer they/them/their pronouns. I like being outside and I love caring for plants, animals, and my friends. I play piano and have done a lot of music and theatre-related things in the past, but more recently I have spent the majority of my time outside rock climbing, taking care of my plants, and going on long walks.

I spend most of my time with my partner, J, and we have a lot of similar interests so we do almost everything together. We have lived in Ohio together for 2 years while J was finishing up a degree, and now we’re moving to the West Coast to be closer to the ocean, mountains, good weather, and better legislation. We are both vegans and we love to cook and share our food with others. We are also both very quiet and introverted. We definitely enjoy meeting new people and exploring new places but we also need time to ourselves to recharge.

I enjoy traveling, trying new things and new food, and exploring new places. I have gotten to travel quite a bit, but there is so much more I want to see. One of my favorite things I've done is go sailing on Klamath lake in Klamath Falls, Oregon with some friends. And the next, next trip I want to take (after California) is going to Mexico to rock climb with J. We have been working on our Spanish for only a few months, though, so we’re not terribly good at it yet.
I am pretty private on social media etc. and prefer to talk to people and get to know them in person so writing this sort of thing is a bit uncomfortable for me. But if you have any questions, or want to know more about me feel free to ask me in a private message and I will do my best to respond.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I Couchsurfed while I was backpacking through Europe with my brother two years ago, and it was an overwhelmingly positive experience. I would love to meet new people and places through the same avenue, so I'm on here again after a brief hiatus.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite bands to listen to are Muse, Panic at the Disco, and Vampire Weekend. I like lots of other music as well, but I’m terrible at remembering song titles and album names so I can’t think of any others to write here. I've recently discovered that I really like certain techno/dance music but I haven't honed in on anything more specific than that yet.
My go-to album for when I’m feeling down is the soundtrack from the 2005 Pride And Prejudice, but I vastly prefer the BBC Pride and Prejudice series for watching.
In general, I like light comedy and romance movies. I have enjoyed many movies that don't fit in either of those categories, but I generally shy away from anything that's too dark and depressing primarily for mental health reasons. I recently watched and liked "What We Do In The Shadows" and "Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse".
I used to read quite a bit but rarely do these days. Most recently, I've read "K2: Life And Death On The World's Most Dangerous Mountain" and "No Shortcuts To The Top" (both by Ed Viesturs). I also recently read a book about building climbing anchors, which was riveting, but then I tried reading "Red Mars" by Kim Stanley Robinson and lost interest pretty quickly amidst all of the very technical sci-fi details. I'm hoping to read the Earthsea cycle by Ursula K. Le Guin next, once I feel motivated to read again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve survived two absolutely miserable trips to the Bruce Peninsula in Canada and still maintain a consuming desire to return.

Teach, Learn, Share

My partner and I are always looking for good thai food, so if you have any restaurant suggestions (or perhaps recipes or cooking knowledge to share), we would be stoked to check them out!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook Vegan food, tell stories, and lend an ear to anything you'd like to share.
