Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing
I love non-conventional and more social approaches to travelling that take a more socialist approach and embrace a more circular economy with a shared community.
Almost everything you and other people need is probably already out there: there is no need to buy more stuff. It's just about connecting people up to the right resources they can get value from. I'm on Couchsurfing because I see it as an amazing example of that kind of powerful thinking that our consumer-driven individualistic West is losing sight of.
When I joined Couchsurfing years ago, I saw it as free accommodation and foreign language practice, and I still totally support that mentality (I'm here to offer free accommodation and language practice!) But now, I don't see it as a game of give versus take that I worried at first I was just 'taking' from: it's community initiative. We're all part of a unit of resources, rather than individuals trying to find a balance between selfishness and selflessness. We're more complex than that. We take what we need, and give what we can.
My partner is also on Couchsurfing with his own profile. We have on occasion surfed together.
NOTES FOR SURFERS:
Some surfers like to bring edible gifts or cook for hosts. I don't expect this. Really, I don't (see whole explanation above). However, I have disappointed a surfer or two in past when they discover I don't accept bottles of alcohol or most snacks as gifts! So, if you feel you want to prepare an edible gift as a thank you, I'm letting you know that I eat a whole food, non processed, vegan diet and don't drink alcohol, so lots of healthy goodness! Any plant-based whole foods, cooked meal is welcomed and appreciated more than you know.
If you arrive at my home drunk on any night, you risk a bad review.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto
When I was 18, I shaved my head for an adolescent mental health charity. I was excited to do it, but living with no hair afterwards was frightening at times, and I learned to empathise in this respect with chemotherapy patients.
I'm also currently doing an extreme minimalist challenge where I pack away all of my belongings and take back only one item per day, to discover what I most value in life.
Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa
I love a deep conversation and a philosophical debate. I'm always interested to learn, so I can offer my hosts an ear to hear their story, and some pretty wild adventures in return.
I lead quite a packed life though at the moment, with a tight schedule most days, so I probably won't get to spend as much time with you as I'd like.
