About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the world, meet new people and learn all I can

ABOUT ME

I'm a very laidback person, I love to try new things and meet new people. One of my favourite things about travel is experiencing new cultures (obviously I like to travel!) I like reading, music and cooking - I always try to experience authors, artists and cook dishes from the places I travel to. I've recently gotten into yoga and meditation. I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar but never have.

I spend a lot of time volunteering, I really love the diverse groups of people I get to work with and am grateful for the opportunities to help. I'm going to Denmark soon to work as an Au Pair, but when i'm finished in Denmark and with travelling I hope to become a teacher.

PHILOSOPHY

I will never say no to meeting new people or trying new things. For me travel is about immersing myself in a new culture and seeing the world differently, I try to give something back to all the people I meet and all the communities I live within.

Interests

I love to travel (obviously) ideally i'd be able to spend months at a time in each country I visit, I enjoy being able to immerse myself in a culture and learn about the place and the people as much as possible while i'm there. I also love reading, i can be a bit of an armchair traveller when I can't get away in real life! Meeting new people and spending time with family and friends is my favourite pass time.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books - I love to read and read everything from Jane Austen to entirely unheard of travel writers (I've been reading a LOT of travelogues lately) Whether fact or fiction I enjoy reading about people's experiences in new cultures. I love Ralph Ellison, Sam Selvon, Jean Rhys and Toni Morrison.

Films - I can't remember the last time I watched a film! Some of my favourite films are: The Shawshank Redemption, Crash, American History X and Good Will Hunting. But I love animated children's films too!

Music - I'll listen to pretty much any music, but I mostly enjoy: Indie, rock, jazz, blues, maybe a little bit of cheesy pop music from when I was younger...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most of my awestruck moments are from visiting Botswana, in the 3 months I spent there I went on land and water safaris and climbed mountains that indigenous tribes believe the be the point of creation for mankind. I saw tribal dances around camp fires and heard hippos cries as I went to sleep, I slept in a grass hut (making for the coldest night ever!) and attended a party in a rural village, on a construction site, where the drinks cooler was a digger. Experiencing life without electricity, water and technology was a great eye opener. I got to really immerse myself in the local culture and form a whole new family of local people, who I miss very much!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share all of my experiences, I've spent a lot of time volunteering in the UK and abroad. I've worked on literacy projects and have some experience teaching English. I also wrote a research project on International human rights law and domestic violence.

I love to learn whenever I can, about anything and everything! I've always wanted to become fluent in a foreign language, learn to play an instrument and take fantastic photographs. Mostly though I just want to learn from the people I meet about their lives and their worlds.
