About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Getting to know new people we can enjoy the American way of life with.
ABOUT ME
Hi everybody!
My name is Laura and I'm a 19 year old girl from Dinslaken, Germany.
After my graduation from high school, the so called "Abitur", I decided to spend one year in the United States as an Aupair.
For the past 12 months I've been living in Menlo Park, California, taking care of children, getting to know the culture and a lot of people all over the world. It has been a great experience and before I'll be off to visit my friends in South Africa, Wales, Denmark, Sweden, Macedonia (...) my brother Robert (22), my friend Malte (19, turning 20) and I are going to travel all over the US.
Robert and Malte arrived at my current home in the end of June and right now we're exploring the area, visiting the sights of San Francisco, driving to Yosemite National Park or hanging at the beach in Santa Cruz. Next week we'll start off our tour in Los Angeles. We'll also visit Las Vegas, Miami, Washington DC, New York City and Boston.
In Miami my good friend Kathi will also be traveling with us. Kathi also spend one year in the US as an AuPair and together with her I made some of my greatest experiences here in the USA like snorkeling at Oahu's Hanauma Bay or hiking to the waterfalls at Yosemite National Park.
Once we go back to Germany all of us want to go to University - my brother and I to study medicine, Malte to study history and law and Kathi to study industrial management.
But before that we want to enjoy our time in America and hope to meet people who want to enjoy it with us :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We're new members of CS, currently only surfing the US for 5 weeks. But hopefully hosting when we're back to Germany.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We didn't do couchsurfing in the actual way yet. One time, we were kind of lost in the Netherlands searching for a camping ground. Asking a couple for a camping ground in the middle of the night we (8 persons) were invited to their house (and the running barbecue ;-)) for the night right away. It was way better than staying at a camping ground with the people you already know. We were so greatful for their generosity and are looking forward to making more experiences of that kind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Malte; My first jump on the moon!
Laura: As I have never been away for more than 2 weeks before my AuPair year, seeing my brother again after 11 months was pretty fantastic :)
Teach, Learn, Share
Malte: This being my first trip to the US, I really like to see how life really is in this country. This is, I think, my main point in doing couch surfing. I'd been to Israel, France and New Zealand on student exchange programs and I always learned so much about life, friendship and myself. I hope and I am actually quiet sure, that this trip will again expand my view on the world. I can't tell you any specific tricks or any new way of finding the meaning of life, but I think having good conversation in a nice atmosphere also can be quiet rewarding!
Laura: somebody interested in playing the piano?
