About Me

CURRENT MISSION

This land is your land. This land is my land.

ABOUT ME

I like coffee shops with comfy chairs, swimming anywhere but a pool, knowing all the lyrics to Broadway musicals (and other songs), staying up late around a campfire, and bars with local beer that allow dogs and babies. I'm straightforward with opinions and I would love to hear yours too!

PHILOSOPHY

Reciprocity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love sharing the places I love with other people, but I'm not in a position to host right now. I'm looking forward to the day when that's possible! Until then, I'd love to share some local beer or a great hike!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I Couch Surfed with my friend on a train trip around the US in 2011. Our hosts were fantastic and obviously cared about the places they live. They invariably passed this appreciation along to us.

Interests

geography, barbecue, jazz, the environment, rural/local economies, good books, activism, cooking, singing, good beer, swimming, folks that know about stuff that I don't know about.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm as happy listening to Charles Mingus as Carly Rae Jepsen. I like the blues and bluegrass.

It took me 5 months to read 100 Years of Solitude and three days to read To Kill a Mockingbird. Both are my favorite.

I enjoy heart wrenching movies and anything by Pixar.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

a loggerhead laying eggs, the Milky Way from the Amazon, bioluminescence while night swiming, New Orleans during Mardi Gras

Teach, Learn, Share

I like fixing things and I'm alright with tools. I know how to make and install rain barrels, put together a grill from a box, change an air filter, and fix bike break cables. "Some assembly required" is music to my ears.

I know some about baking bread.

I can talk for days about the barbecue tradition of Eastern North Carolina.

Countries I’ve Visited

Ecuador, England, United Kingdom, United States, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
