CURRENT MISSION

Been traveling with my teenage daughter for a couple months through Guatemala and Mexico. Been staying in Airbnbs, but looking to branch out to get to know our new area while we look for apartments in Puerto Morelos.

ABOUT ME

I adore travel as well as meeting new people. In Guatemala, the hiking and exploring villages and a new culture...in Mexico it's about the language, the food, the cenotes, and ruins.

As I wrote this the first time, we were sitting under a palm tree overlooking the Mexican Caribbean eating Thai food. Now, as I revamp, we're traveling again with similar desires to dig deeper into culture and community than a few weeks in Airbnbs could ever do.

My belief is that life is good and adventure is endless. It would be fun if you could host us a few nights.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to pack in as much of Mexican and Guatemalan culture....food, language, music, perhaps dancing, cenotes, etc as possible. While Airbnb offers control over the quality of space, it does nothing to support soaking up culture. This is my way of digging deeper and making the most of our time here while we can.

I used to be a mentor for young diplomats and foreign exchange students with US Department of State called American Councils. These experiences in different homes, suggestions of where to eat and shop from locals has the potential of fast-forwarding understanding of the culture, so much more than the seperate-ness of vacation-type culture "protected" inside resorts that mimic our own cultures. I love this.

A positive attitude, sincere gratitude, smiles, and independence...I'm down with someone who has a day off and wants to explore with us but I don't NEED a travel guide. I actually have some work (online) I need to catch up on and my daughter has a bit more school work to do. So access to a comfy place to sit and be on wi-fi is really all we need. A good view or good company are bonus. We will be looking for apartments the next few days.
