About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Widen my horizons, grow as a person and live in a different culture so as to better understand others and myself.

ABOUT ME
I value my time and independence, alone time has always been crucial for me but sharing with those I love what I learnt and discovered while on my own is just as important. I'm down for spontaneous adventures as well as relaxing night at home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is pretty unknown in my country so the first time I heard about it was in the USA while talking to another au pair. The idea of being able to meet locals immediately sparked my curiousity. Isn't one of the best things about travelling the fact that you make new friends? Connecting with people that you would have never had the opportunity to know? My best moments here in the USA were in the company of said friends who I will always remember. I hope to add more to that list.

“Your life should consist of more than commuting, working, eating, surfing the Internet, sleeping and watching TV. Your life should be filled with purpose-driven experiences and projects that bring excitement, passion, energy, and authentic meaning and joy into your life.”

Music, Movies, and Books

Why don't you ask me who I love more, my mum or my dad? It's impossible to answer. What makes something your favourite? The amount of times you listen/read/watch it? What I can tell you is that I went to see Coldplay, Oasis, Noel Gallagher, Roger Waters and Marron 5 live when they came to BA. I have reread Pride & Prejudice, To kill a mockingbird and Lost world (Crichton not Doyle) more times than I can count, and when it comes to movies, well.. I love going to the movies, alone or with friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Honestly? Going abroad to live as an au pair for a whole year. Though you are supposed to be like another member of the family, that is really not what usually happens. You're sharing a house with people who are both your host parents but your employers as well, and that's a hard thing to balance. You're alone in a country in which you know nobody: you have to rely on yourself for anything you want to do. There's no one coming to save you. For the first time in my life after living a sheltered life for two decades I had to stand on my own two feet. You have to take a hard look at yourself. And start to change.

Teach, Learn, Share

What I need to learn:
“It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. I was so preposterously serious in those days… Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me…So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so lightly. Lightly my darling…”
— Aldous Huxley, Island
