Overview
About Me
I grew up in Europe and moved to to Latin America in 2017 to explore social development projects. I worked in non-profits in rural Honduras, developing a children’s literacy program and coordinating informal education curricula in an underserved community; in Guatemala City, where I worked with victims of sexual abuse and trafficking through community outreach, education and empowerment workshops; and in Colombia where I consulted for projects of women’s empowerment through financial inclusion.
I now live in Rio de Janeiro and work at Community in Action as Operations Manager.
About Community in Action
We are a grassroots non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil . Our mission is to offer social outreach programs throughout Rio’s favelas (shanty towns) as well as personal development opportunities for social entrepreneurs and foreign volunteers. We work with local residents, schools, and NGOs to generate local change. Since 2004, we have been uniting people from around the world with grassroots initiatives in Rio’s most marginalized regions, focusing on: education, job training, women’s empowerment, youth programming, the environment, and manual labor support.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing to promote our Favela Graffiti Experience - we have been offering day experiences to visit favelas in Rio de Janeiro in an interactive, responsible and ethical way. Participants work with local graffiti artists on community beautification initiatives through painting & graffiti, and spend the day taking in the vibrant favela culture.
