Overview
About Me
I want to be like Olaf, glad and big.
I'd like to think that in certain ways I'm a scientist -at least in training- and in other ways I'm an artist. I enjoy poetry -written like e.e. cummings, or slam poetry like Taylor Mali or Neil Hillborn. I want to get back into creative writing, formulating something fantastic by the side of a stream somewhere. In the future, I intend on being a research physician, but I want to balance out my professional life with travel and camaraderie, which can be facilitated in my mind by couch-surfing.
When I'm not traveling, I train service dogs and participate in my area's LGBTQ activist scene.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I joined when I saw the warmth of the community and the chance to cultivate relationships. I hope to cultivate relationships on my own terms and meet passionate, multifaceted individuals.
Interests
One of the biggest problems that I have is that I'm interested in everything. I'm pursuing an education in science -Genetics, Biochemistry, that whole family- and I'm truly fascinated by the intricacies of our smallest cells and our largest galaxies. At the same time, I adore analyzing literature, experiencing different cultures and delving into their histories, religious debates from the secular perspective, and so forth.
I have a vested interest in social justice, particularly as involving the queer communities and individuals with special needs. I'm also obsessed with animals, from dogs and cats to snakes and snails. I love bugs, insects, and creepy-crawlies too.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music:
I have a bit of a strange taste in music, when I specify beyond liking bits from all genres. I typically describe my taste as folk punk. I enjoy, in no particular order: Andrew Jackson Jihaad, The Front Bottoms, Days n Daze, The Mountain Goats, and so forth. It's stopping the list that's hard for me.
Movies:
It seems like all of my friends are cinema-philes which complicates the relationship I have with movies. I enjoy so-bad-it's-good movies, like Foodfight and the Room. I like typical cheesy romcoms at times, like 10 Things I Hate About You and Music & Lyrics. But then at other times I do make time for the visually and emotionally stunning: Betty Blue or The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It really depends on the moment and the film.
Books:
I'm a sucker for the classics, from Jane Eyre to all the Austen novels, to Picture of Dorian Gray. I also have loved Infinite Jest, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Money, really a thousand different stories that have caried me away.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm not sure if it's amazing I got my ham radio license when I was 10 so I could talk to people from all over the world.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you weird little fun facts while I learn from you (I know an unusual amount about teeth from being a dental assistant)! And I'd love to share a trip around the area wherever I am
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm hoping to building an international group of friends for future travels and meet ups! Maybe I can host you somewhere in a few years
