About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Passport stamp collecting, while soaking up new cultures, eating delicious foods, and meeting new people!

ABOUT ME

Chris and I have been traveling for the past five months around New Zealand, Southeast Asia and have recently flown into Amsterdam from Egypt. Even before we met we both loved to travel and it took us a good chunk of time to save up for this 7-month trip, but now we are loving the freedom and experiences of travelling and the time off from the daily grind! We are both very active and love getting outdoors whenever possible. Snowboarding is what originally brought Chris to Canada and in our travels we have completed our open-water and advance dive courses - love the underwater experience! (We are always up for trying almost anything (although some of the new experiences in the food department left our stomachs churning in Asia!). Our favorite part of traveling so far has been the amazing people we have met along the way. Our experiences have been shaped by the amazing stories and personalities that we have met in each country, and we hope we will have some lifelong friends we will meet again somewhere out there down the road from now.

PHILOSOPHY

"Life's about the journey, not the destination".. Chris and I try to avoid becoming complacent and too job-oriented. We like to set goals and commit to working towards them. Together we have renovated our apartment, trained for and ran a marathon and saved up for this trip we're currently on. Not sure what our next plan will be, but we're proud of what we've accomplished together so far and look forward to the next experience, while enjoying everything in between!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Chris and I are both very social people and as mentioned above, love meeting new people. I don't know why we haven't joined CS previously. Maybe I felt like I needed to have a space so I could give back to the surfing community before I joined..? Or maybe we're just joining now because Europe is a hell of a lot more expensive than Thailand! Either way, we now have our newly renovated place back home to offer up once we get back. A local experience and getting off the tourist track is what we seek more than anything. A big city can feel a lot smaller when you know a local who can point out cool places and experiences. Conversely, a small town might appear to not have much going on, but with a local to share its secrets it could be amazing!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have unofficially couchsurfed with friends and friends-of-friends in various cities around the world. Especially if you're only somewhere for a short amount of time, it's great to have someone to help you get your bearings and point out the most important bits. This also comes in handy for finding cheap places to eat - great for the budget traveler. We really are (officially) Couchsurfing virgins, looking for someone interested in popping our cherry!

Interests

Obviously traveling... :)
Cooking, Snowboarding, Diving, Socializing, Fitness, Sports - specifically our two national ones, Rugby and Hockey!, History (that's really more Chris' thing, although I am interested when it's in relation to places we're visiting), Languages (more me, Chris is unilingual but really trying hard to learn Spanish)

Music, Movies, and Books

We are pretty much opposites in this category so I won't go into great detail. It keeps things interesting and our minds open as we share our likes and dislikes with each other. Chris likes action movies, house music and non-fiction, whereas I'm more of a shameless rom-com fan, when it comes to music I'm all over the map and I can't read non-fiction unless it's required for my job :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Gibbon Experience!! We did this at the beginning of June, and it was AMAZING, the highlight of our trip! What's not to love about living in a treehouse, ziplining among trees and watching monkeys!?

Teach, Learn, Share

Not sure what to write here as everyone has their experiences and opinions to share. That is one of the things that we love about traveling and what we have to offer. Beyond that, we know how to say thank-you in probably 10 different languages, Chris can open bottle caps with random items, he can also juggle pretty well and I am always happy to share random nature facts with anyone willing to listen!
