I'm originally from Los Angeles, and currently living in Portland, OR, where I work for the regional government as the communications lead on housing and homelessness work. I recently completed my doctorate in urban studies so obviously I enjoy learning about cities, and I also have a background in photography and film. In addition to those things, I'm super interested in anthropology, archaeology, sociology, politics, art, architecture, religion, and general adventuring.

For me, travel is an essential part of life. Pre-pandemic I tried to leave the US at least once each year, and wherever I go, I try to make a full investigation out of it. I find the best discoveries usually happen by accident and are not in guidebooks. I especially enjoy any kind of festival, gathering or live performance, but am equally happy with a long ramble.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After surfing and hosting over the past several years and meeting many amazing people from all over the world (and a few questionable folks too), I've decided there's just no better way to get to know a place! Like many people in CS, I'm not so much into the tourist stuff as I am into learning about what life is really like where you live.
