About Me

Hello everyone!
My name is Laurence, I'm 24 and I am from Québec city (in the part of Canada where French is our first langage).
A few years ago, I had the chance to visit Spain (mostly Sevilla, but also Córdoba and Granada), Costa Rica and Vancouver, where I was able to try my english and spanish skills.
I am presently studying at Paris-Sorbonne for the semester, so I hope to travel around Europe quite a bit during my time here!
I am a joyful, open-minded person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Before I left for Paris, my boyfriend dared me to try CS, since he had previously tried it during his trip in Europe a few years ago and loved his experience. I couldn't say no to that!
Truthfully, I am a people person. All of the trips I've been on so far, I spent them staying with host families, and I loved it. I believe that exchanging with locals is the best way to discover places and to make friends, which can be a challenge when you're new in a city.

Interests

I love swing dancing. I actually teach rockabilly-jive in Québec as a part-time job, and participate once in a while in competitions (team showcase, couples competition, etc.). See how we dance in my hometown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA-9NQFzX-k
I like hiking, jogging, and pretty much any kind of outdoor activities.
I also like spending time in museums, and even though I sometimes need someone to help me understand contempory art, I am very open minded.
Most of all, I am interested in learning something new everywhere I go.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is The Sound of music. Can't help it, it's a perfect story that doesn't get old. Inception, Le dîner de cons, Boyhood, Titanic and Moulin Rouge also make it to my top 10.
I love Marie Laberge's books (she's is one of Québec's best authors ever). My list of favorite books also includes The Shadow of the wind (Carlos Ruiz Zafón), The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follet) and all of Hercule Poirot's stories.
When it comes to music, it's safe to say that I like rockabilly, rythm and blues, big band and jazz in general. But my weakness is definitely film scores.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My present semester in Paris is probably the most amazing that I have ever done. It's an incredible chance to get to live in this rich and beautiful city.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am more than eager to teach the basics of swing dancing if you'd like to learn it. It's something I love to do.
I love to chat about travel, art and politics over a meal or a drink. I am very interested in learning about the history and culture of the places I visit.
And one of my favorite topics of all is the variety of languages! Who has never heard something like: "French from France is the real French!" or "You're American, from the way you speak"? I love to discover how people consider their own language or accent, and mostly how they think about people speaking their language in other countries. After all, everyone has their own opinion about that!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook for you some of Québec's classic meals, like the well-known poutine, or chinese pie (it's not really chinese, obviously, but I'll tell you where the name comes from if you want), or the delicious maple sirup pudding.
Of course, I can also offer my free labor (cleaning, laundry...) in exchange for a roof.
