Overview
About Me
Right now I'm a student between two degrees : I've finished one in History of Art and I plan on starting one in Architecture next fall (fingers crossed!). So, obviously, I always take time to check out the architecture (which can be big buildings or quirky houses) anywhere I go and I'll be found strollllllling in museums. So I think you've guessed already that I really enjoy walking - it's my favorite way of discovering a place.
I work in a printmaking artist-run center, so it gives me a chance to have an inside look at part of the art community in Montreal. And I get to meet people, talk about art and show the wonderful studio. That's really the part I like the most. I get to greet groups from colleges and universities and present exhibitions and facilities made by artists for artists.
Before I worked in a day camp for a few summers - and I miss it very much. I realize I really need to get to interact with people to like what I do. And in a way, couchsurfing gives me the opportunity to do so while traveling. Thanks :)
And last but not least, ecology is super important for me : I'll recycle everything, compost what I can (even on a trip), use as little plastic as possible and I'm starting to make my own tooth paste, deodorant and cleaning products for the apartment. That's not it, but let's start with that and for the rest we can talk about it as long as you want haha - I'm always curious to see the solutions people can find to help the planet.
**and please excuse in advance any mistake, my first language is French not English.. merci beaucoup de votre compréhension! **
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I just love to travel (duh!). Having the chance to meet new people and to have a glimpse of another life, a new perspective is simply so enriching. Meeting, sharing and being open with new people can only lead to unsuspected and wonderful things.
Interests
As said before, I've studied in history of art, so I kind of love to go to museum, art exhibitions - I quite like all forms of art (paintings, sculptures, photography, dance, performance, etc.). I try to draw more and paint as well - I used to when I was studiing Visual Arts and I miss creating stuff daily.
I like photography - but I'm not really good at it haha, but still, I try to get better - I'm already going around with my father's old Polaroid taking blurry pictures haha
I also love to go hiking - wherever and whatever the weather! Small mounts or big mountains, here I come!;)
I've recently started indoor climbing - and I just love it! I was able to bring my sister and my boyfriend to take the class with me and now the three of us climb together. It's just great :D
And finally, I love plants
Music, Movies, and Books
I love to read - I've started Simone de Beauvoir's "Le deuxième sexe" and am now at the second volume and it's soooo interesting!
It's a bit hard for me to choose one book, so I'll name an author instead. In this case, Daniel Pennac, as all of his books I've read so far, I've loved. And the Sherlock Holmes' (childhood favorite!). Oh and Tolstoï's "Anna Karenina" - that book just struck me.
Lately the movie I've seen that had the same effect was "Call me by your name". Did you see it? If not, I do encourage you quite strongly to remedy the situation. ;)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don't think it's amazing, but the simple fact that I went to the UK a few years ago means a lot to me. I flew from Canada and worked as a language assistant in a school there for almost a year. I think that being on my own and away from family and friends for months was both hard and amazingly good for me. Plus I realized how much I enjoyed taking the role of a teacher.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I know that I'm quite an enthousiastic person and I love to share with others (food, a laugh, whatever happens!). Oh and I speak French! But not any French - the one from Montréal, Québec! Which means I can help you pronounce correctly "croissant" but also "poutine" - isn't that neat? ;)
