About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience all I can

ABOUT ME

Let's see, I hail from the glorious state of Vermont. I am slightly biased when I purchase cheddar cheese and maple syrup and ice cream (but that will happen). I rode horses when I was young and throughout college. I don't have money, so that kind of ended when I graduated. Riding helped foster my love of travel. I spent all of my teen years on the road, going from horse show to horse show. It brought me all over the New England area and I got my first taste of the gypsy life. In college, I got to travel all over the south, seeing wonderful cities like Asheville, Blowing Rock, Durham (NC), Lexington (KY), Blacksburg, Roanoke, Lexington (VA), Knoxville (TN) and many others I can't remember. I love traveling, even if I'm not sure what to expect when I arrive.

In college, I received a degree in history and political science. I am especially interested in political theory and have been known to quote Mill, Rawls, Locke, Hobbes, Rousseau, Aristotle, Bentham, Marx, Hegel and Bernie Sanders (I'm sorry I'm from Vermont it comes with the genetics). I am one of those kids who loves to talk about philosophy, ideological theories, and current politics.

I also really enjoy the arts. I'm probably one of the few who takes pride in loving abstract expressionism. I fell in love with artistic expression in college and if you know of any sculpture gardens in your area, I will most likely never leave. I love poetry too, I'm akin to Ginsburg, Kerouac, Bukowski, Whitman, Kahlil Gibran, Buddha, Keats, Wordsworth, Frost and many others. My life long goal is to attend a poetry reading that rivals 'Six poets at Six Gallery' (extra points if you have any idea what I'm talking about). I love meeting new people and having laughs over a beer.

I've had some really ridiculous things happen to me during my life, so I'm full of funny and entertaining stories, which I love to tell!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic and see life through 'rose colored glasses.'

I am ambiguous and have high goals in life but take the time to take a deep breathe and live in the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't have a couch (seeing as I'm a gypsy and living out of my car). So, as of now I participate by borrowing couches.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The first time I couch surfed was about two days after meeting a co-worker of mine. We decided to go up to New Orleans and I stayed with a fellow Couch Surfer and fell deeply in love with the idea!

Interests

I'm a lover of most things, and I love trying new things. For example just last week I attended a Zumba class... That was interesting.

- Writing
- Taking walks (or what I can trundles)
- Reading
- Laying out in the grass or running around outside (barefoot)
- Attending poetry events
- Finding good local foods and coffee shops (I always find a local coffee shop wherever I go)
- Petting animals or attempting to ride wild animals
- Horse back riding (mostly adventuring outside, or jumping really big - these are especially awesome when combined)
- Day drinking
- Enjoying a glass of tea at the end of the day under candle light
- Biking, hiking, urban exploring, kayaking, sailing, rollerblading and the rare preset hop scotch.
- Studying, hanging out at public libraries, watching documentaries and engaging in in-depth intellectual conversations
- Laughing until I can't breathe
- Smiling and embracing the moment

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a bit of an indie movie fanatic. I really like indie comedies, including The Trotsky, The Sound of Noise, The Rage in Placid Lake, In the Loop and Sleepwalk With Me. I also really like the movie Life Cycles (about cycling - if you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend seeing it)! I really like any movie that makes you think... Huge documentary fan; I can watch any type of documentary (musical, political, scientific, cultural and military).

Other movies include: Grandma's Boy, Animal House, Super Troopers, Dazed and Confused, Inglorious Bastards, Silence of the Lambs, Midnight in Paris, Seabiscuit, Schindler's List and so many others.

As for music, I'm a lover of all genres except country. I know practically everyone says that, so here's a list to help clarify. Band of Horses, Radical Face, Phish, Here we go Magic, M83, Daft Punk, DMB, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Ray LaMontagne, Humming House, David Wax Museum, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Synthian, Boulder Acoustic Society, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Santana, Matt Butcher and so (so) much more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've always been someone who tries to inspire creativity and progress. And I've experience a lot of inspiration things, but by far the most amazing was my trip to Haiti.

I went there to help an orphanage after the earthquake. What I came back with was more than I could have ever imaged. The kids were incredible and the time I spent there was sublime. From campfire sing-a-longs to preparing food - I am so grateful the opportunity fell into my lap. It has inspired a lifetime of advocacy, if you are fortunate to experience something similar - don't hesitate.

I cannot come close to describing it over the internet.

Teach, Learn, Share

Unfortunately I have rather specialized talents. However, if you happen to have a love of horse back riding (or own a horse but have never been able to ride it), I would be delighted to help you out. Other than that - here's a somewhat limited list of other talents:

1). Cooking acorn squash so good that it makes you revert back to your childhood
2). Drawing a mean stick figure person (including facial expression)
3). Taking pretty epic walks
4). Making thread bracelets (brought to you by the summer camp I worked for)
5). Mixing extremely strong adult beverages
6). Music sharing

Other than that, I'm bringing mediocrity to the table. I'm up for sharing though!
