About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To help my fellow wondering wonderer find a place to crash & cool spots to be around town in hopes that when I can afford to travel the same doors will be open for me.

ABOUT ME

I'm wrapping up my BA in English Lit here in the next year (or so)and then heading to North Carolina where I will be attending Appalachian State for sustainable development. I love people and anything community oriented-- and ultimately I plan to spend the rest of my life working with communities and people in need.

I moved back in with my folks about a year ago so my couch is now their couch and not really conducive to hosting surfers. It's a process but I'm working my ass off with two jobs in hopes that I can return to Huntington in the fall. In the mean time I'm working on my garden and tending to the goat farm. A reprieve in the country is always nice.

PHILOSOPHY

I guess my personal philosophy would be something to the effect of "why waste time being upset over something that you can't change." I see myself as a very proactive person. I'm intuitive and extremely self aware. Self awareness is probably one of the most important things to me. It not only dictates the level of ease that one can move through a crowd but it also dictates, in my humble opinion, the level of ease that one can move through life. I've faced my share of adversity-- we all have-- now I'm just trying to live my life in the most seamless way as possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I feel like I am more of an observer than a participant-- and that really bums me out. However if there are any surfers coming through the area that would like a stroll up to the barn to play with baby goats then I am totally game. I'm also good for showing people some cool spots around town. I work at the biggest head shop in the Huntington area so I stay fairly plugged in and I love showing people new things!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As of yet I haven't surfed on a coach in an unfamiliar city or country. I'm hopeful that this will change very soon. For the first time in my life I feel fairly free to experience the world around me. At my last home in Huntington I hosted several people-- all who were completely delightful. I love the beautiful community that has formed around couch surfing and I also see it as a viable way to strengthen our physical communities that we interact with every day.

Interests

I love music, wine, camp fires, gardening, writing, and sustainable sewing. Nine times out of ten you will find me barefoot, hiking, camping, hula hooping, making my own hoops, drumming, strumming on my guitar, or performing my poetry at open mics. I love moon light & swimming in rivers and lakes. And most of all I love being happy.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Wes Anderson and Quinton Tarantino flicks. I love Chuck Palahniuk and Geoffrey Chaucer. I love sci-fi and dystopian literature, poetry, Victorian literature featuring a saucy female lead-- the Awakening is my favorite book but I'll read anything if you put it in front of me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing experiences of my life was an Americorp sponsored program that I have worked with for the last few summers, Build-it-Up West Virginia is a non-profit grass roots organization that gives students in Appalachia an opportunity to work in and with impoverished communities across the Appalachian coal fields. Whether we were planting community gardens or painting murals or weather proofing houses we empowered ourselves and others with pure, kind hearted gestures.
