ABOUT ME

This feels a bit like an on-line dating profile, but here goes. I am thoughtful, compassionate, insightful, introspective, generous, sensitive, direct, kind, serious but with a sense of humor, intelligent, passionate, friendly, a seeker, independent and open-minded.

PHILOSOPHY

Give back that which is freely given. I have been blessed with a wonderful life full of self-disccovery, spiritual insights and an eclectic array of friends and love. I love sharing my journey with others and listening to theirs.

I participate by being open everyday to what the universe has in store for me to learn.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am no longer new to this....my students told me of their adventures and how rich their experiences have been....I decided to give it a try. I spent 2 weeks in to New England and had my first "official" surfing experience and I have to say it was amazing. The places I stayed and the people I met were what made my journey so rich. Staying with my former students in Hawaii for 8 days was a warm, nourishing experience.
I had, however, basically couch surfed at an early age (before it had a name and an awesome site) having left home at 15 and stayed at friends/family and eventually was a foster child. Consequently I have over the years taken in children who parents were unavailable to provide them the love and guidance they needed. It is never easy sharing your personal space with others but is it so rewarding...when both parties are enriched from the experience.
I have had the pleasure of hosting several surfers in my home now too. It has been very rewarding.

Interests

I am always having a growth spurt.....so meeting people who are on journey of self discovery and sharing our experiences strengths and hopes nourishes my soul. Heart to heart conversations, long walks, short hikes, listening to new music genres and great stories on NPR are just a few things that I find engaging.

Music, Movies, and Books

I hate TV and haven't watched it for the past 13 years. I do however love movies, documentaries, foreign films, indie films and even the "chick-flicks" and blockbusters. I have Netflix and watch what I choose from whole series to movies and documentaries. My favorite media is radio and I listen to NPR (National Public Radio) KCRW locally.
I love all kinds of music....my favorite being folk-rock and my least favorite...classical...but I am coming to appreciate it more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It is not so much that the view from the top of the Mt. peaks awe me (and they do). It is more the quiet awareness of the beauty in the most familiar, yet often overlooked places that can take my breath away and give me joy and a passion for life. These moments can be on a walk near my home when I come upon an intricately woven spider web glistening with dew in the early morning sunlight, or occur in an early afternoon tour in one of the Townships in South Africa when I am swept up by the glimmer in a young girls eye as she looks up and beckons me to play ring-around- the-rosies in her bare feet on her clay/mud front yard with her shack/home behind her, without a care in the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love the idea that we are all teachers and there doesn't have to be a formal classroom for learning to occur. What I have to offer is insight to the human condition...why people do what they do. I also have experience strength and hope to share about overcoming addictions.
I would want to learn from others life experiences and maybe some new vegetarian meals.
