About Me
Hi! I'm Laurie, a Montreal-based artist loving adventure! I have been an avid traveller since the age of 15, where I had the amazing opportunity to go on a student exchange alone in Germany for three months. Ever since, I've been travelling whenever I can, with a preference for longer trips, where I can fully immerse myself in the local lifestyle and get to know a land and its people.
I find it hard to put myself in a category, since I am an artist who loves nature and the city equally, so you can often find me walking in the forest in the morning, working for a film festival in the afternoon, then having friends over for dinner, jamming in the evening and dancing all night. I have a very curious mind - a blessing and a curse. I'm passionate about arts and building community.
I usually juggle between working on my artistic projects and working part-time jobs in the arts & culture milieu. My practice is mainly in music, cinema and poetry. I'm currently on a grant to make a music album, which should come out late 2023. I also work for a documentary film festival as a curator and admin assistant. I'm also working on my films slowly, my latest being currently in the post-production phase.
One of the things I like the most is to gather people by organizing events! In 2021 I organized weekly poetry nights in my living room, called the Monday Poetray. I founded in 2022 a cinéclub and organize bi-monthly screenings that gather friends & cinema lovers in Montreal. I also throw a lot of concerts and shows with other artists. Sharing and bringing together truly fills up my heart. It's partly why I'm also the "cake lady" - I will bake a cake for anyone's birthday, and light up the candles at the party to create this magical moment where everyone sings and stops whatever they were doing. This is bliss!
I would describe myself as an extravert with a strong capacity for introspection as well. As much as I love being with others, I also dig being alone. I like being in the spotlight if the spot is free, but I won't fight for it if it isn't. I cherish heart to heart connections.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to get to know the people that weave a culture, and so Couchsurfing stands out as a way to share stories and moments with some amazing like-minded people! I also thrive to make travel more accessible to everyone. On another note, I'm proud to be a solo female traveller, and hope to meet other women I can help out or share with.
