ABOUT ME

Relaxed, athletic, outdoorsy, reader. I'm also the type that doesn't like writing self-descriptions, but I can't con anyone (including my wife) into doing it for me. ;)

I like those places, however large or small they may be, that take your breath away with their beauty. It doesn't happen often, but when it does...

I would have a hard time living in a place where nature wasn't prominent, but I like visiting cities for short periods. I have been a teacher and a network administrator and preferred the lower salary of the first over the desk-work and meetings of the later. I am a big sports fan with a geeky side and all of me likes traveling. It beats work any day of the week. ;)

PHILOSOPHY

I'm working on it, but actions speak louder than words and I talk too much anyway. :) You'll probably figure out my personal philosophy before I do.

We sometimes host in Maribor. We have kids, so it depends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't had a bad experience yet. Couchsurfers in Romania and Turkey turned me on to couchsurfing, and since then I've only met fantastic people...including my favorite person. No one wanted to come to rural Japan... (unbelievable, I know) when I offered to host there, but my wife and I have hosted 15-or-so groups in Maribor and are looking forward to the next visitors.

Breathing fresh air in foreign places with cool people.

Playing sports while traveling: football (both kinds), basketball, tennis, badminton and baseball in Japan, tennis in Turkey, frisbee in Hungary, snowboarding in Slovenia, etc...

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge reader (my room is like a library), and I enjoy movies as well. I mostly listen to relaxing music - jazz, blues, hawaiian... but I also like classic rock, oldies, and some random bands.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Full moon on Mt. Koya, hiking up Mt. Fuji from 4pm-5am to see the sunrise, late-night hike through the jungle to see tapirs...

Teach, Learn, Share

I know several bad card tricks that have failed to impress people on 3 continents. I can juggle badly.
