Overview
About Me
Hi, Friends around the world! Born in South Africa. Qualified as a teacher and taught High School English for 20 years. Then emigrated to the UK by riding across Africa by motorcycle with my 17-year-old son. Continued teaching until I retired six years ago.
Author of 19 books - began with novels for young adults; then published three novels for adults but now I only write adventure motorcycle travelogues (8 published so far). All books available on Amazon so you can check them out if you want to.
My wife, also a teacher, died in October 2017 so I now live alone. My new single life does, however, despite the loneliness, enable me to travel more than I have been able to in the past. I have travelled by motorcycle, usually accompanied by my son, across Africa, Morocco, Albania, Vietnam, Russia (four times, the last in 2018 trans-Russia, solo, including the notorious Road of Bones twice), Vietnam, Central Asia and now North America, Canada and Alaska.
I'm sane, normal (well, as normal as any of us can claim to be), of Christian persuasion, have lived a very interesting life and, despite my age, often think that I'm still in my mid twenties (until my bones convince me otherwise).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Because I want to meet interesting people from all over the world, have wonderful conversations and share the wealth of our mutual civilizations...
Well, after that rubbish, I'll give you the honest answer: I'm retired, love adventure travel but can't really afford to stay in hotels for four months in the good ol' US of A. Camping? Y-e-e-s - but me ol' bones tend to object. So, I'd rather sleep in a warm, comfortable bed, eat your food, have stimulating conversations and amaze you with my tales of travels to far-off places.
