Hi, I'm Lawrence. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. I've been living in Los Angeles, CA now for over 10 years pursuing entertainment. I considered myself to be very blessed to be able to travel for work, especially since I love a great adventure and experiencing new things. Other than amusing myself, I also enjoy making people around me laugh as well as making them feel uplifted.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A good friend of mine told me about her experience with Couchsurfing and told me that I should join and utilize it as an option for lodging when I travel. I'll admit, I was skeptical about the idea at first, but I also considered how I may be able to add value to others around me as a couchsurfer or possibly even as a host someday. Knowing how I am when someone looks out for me, I always want to give back to them. Not out of obligation, but giving back because I genuinely want to.

Interests

I have a huge passion for Hip Hop, so much that I'm a part of it with the motive to change the world for the greater good and give people who are new to it a better perception of it. I'm always up for a lengthy conversation about this genre of music, going as far back as when it first started. I also have always been into video games since I was a kid, especially fighting games or RPG games like Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mortal Kombat and the list goes on. I also have studied martial arts for a few years and I love action films as well as comedy.

I'm very open to checking out out genres knowing the fact the more open I am to different genres of music, the better it makes me as an artist.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is something I've overlooked at first, but loved what I've accomplished with this amazing thing I've done. I always see myself impacting millions of lives someday, but it's also a big deal just impacting the life of one.

I remember years ago when I volunteered to work as an assistant personal-defense instructor before I studied a couple styles of Kung Fu, the instructor I was assisting had me focus most of my attention on one of the students in the class for the semester. This particular nerdy individual I focused on had no prior athletic experience. In fact, she had a very low self-esteem, walks in a hunched over way and not nearly as confident as she should be. However, she has always been a kind-hearted person as well as soft-spoken.

After working with her throughout the semester, her whole demeanor and the way she carries herself compared to the first day she took the class has dramatically changed for the better. I didn't realize how big of a deal it was until the instructor told me at the end why he made me focus on helping her and how much of an impact I personally made on her life. I then noticed how differently she looks at me from that point on and she even told me herself how much of an impact I made on her as well as thanking me for it.

Still to this day I'm amazed at how much she has changed in the way she views herself as well as her outlook on life with the little time we had together for 1 whole semester. Seeing the huge potential in others when they don't see it themselves is a great skill to have indeed!

In the past I've taught self-defense, how to drive, and coached youth basketball.

A mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. So I'm always open to learning new things.

I've shared my love of music as well as my wisdom in many things.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I have to offer hosts other than my charming personality? Nothing..... just a pat on the back...... just kidding! Hopefully treat them to food, drinks and a great time at the least. I'm always willing to help anyway I can. Most importantly, leave them better than how they were when I first met them and be a great house guest.
