About Me

almost architect urbanist, but scenographer. feminist. lover of the arts and hungry for culture. serene. shy but also curious. always in search of new experiences and self-knowledge. virgo. I consider cooking a revolutionary act.

I was born in a small town in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais and I have lived in the capital Belo Horizonte for eight years now. I already had opportunities to travel to the other states of Brazil (southeast, south and northeast regions), but the period of my life in which I traveled most was during my exchange program in Lille (north of France). During that time that lasted one year, I met people and discovered places and contexts that are totally different from mine.

my place says a lot about me

Belo Horizonte is the greatest metropolis of the state. In general, Minas Gerais is formed by several little cities and vast rural territory. In its natural landscape predominate the hills and waterfalls, the great pastures and plantations are interspersed with portions of Mata Atlântica and Cerrado. The soil rich in various minerals has determined mining as the main exploratory / commercial activity of the state since the beginning of its occupation. Remains of early explorations, deactivated mines, true man-made caves, can be visited in different parts of the state. Belo Horizonte is less than 100Km from Ouro Preto, our ancient capital and place that gathers elements of the traditional essence of the state - the natural landscape that I have already mentioned and the architectural-urbanistic ensemble emblematic of our history (that marked by the Catholic Church and the regime of slavery of Indigenous and African peoples). The city where I live was planned and built just over a century ago to be the new administrative capital. Located in the center of the state, BH extrapolated in a short time the planned urban area in the 1890s and became also the industrial, commercial and cultural center of Minas Gerais. BH has several museums, art galleries, large and small cinemas, traditional and alternative theaters. However, its main attraction undoubtedly is the presence of countless bars spread throughout the city. The corner bars with tables on the sidewalks and balconies are important elements in the daily ambience of the capital. It's in the bar that Belorizontinos meet to share stories, beers and good food. By the way, besides the bar the kitchen is the place where the people of Minas traditionally establish and cultivate their relations. In the vicinity of Belo Horizonte we find several ecological parks full of trails and waterfalls. In addition to these, we have Inhotim which is a large open-air contemporary art museum.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm in Couchsurfing because I want to continue meeting people and sharing unforgettable moments with them.

I have had experiences of receiving people in my house - friends and friends of friends from afar. I also surfed for some couches. All of these meetings were combined into Facebook groups or through friends. My intention now is to expand the experience of to receive and to be received.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not a person of to list favorites, I really like a lot of things :)

I listen to a lot of Brazilian music of almost every rhythm. Today, I'm very into musicians who mix Brazilian, African and Portuguese rhythms like Mayara Andrade, Leudji Luna, Coladera ... It's a long list.
I loved all the Agnès Varda movies that I've been able to watch. A Brazilian short film that was recently presented to me and I loved it: "Cold Tropics" by Kleber Mendonça Filho.
About reads, Caliban and the Witch of Silvia Federici became a bible for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I practice yoga daily. Establishing this routine was the best thing I did in the last few months. Physical exercise combined with meditation has been essential for my self-confidence.

Teach, Learn, Share

Among my passions are: food, plants and handicrafts. Therefore, I would love to exchange culinary knowledge, gardening or macrame techniques, for example.
One of my goals at the moment is to break my English language barrier. I like to learn new languages and speak at least a little bit of the local language when I'm traveling. However, English was imposed to me as an alternative language and in this forced relationship I never felt truly secure. I am willing to learn English with the people I meet and teach them if they have any interest in Portuguese and / or French.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm sure I'll love sharing recipes and cooking with the hosts. In addition to conversations, walks and drinks I can share tips on self-care, caring for the home and plants. Mostly good energies.
