About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To better my German, learn new languages, experience other cultures and new people and have a great time running around Europe for the next 3 months!

ABOUT ME

I'm a kind and wandering soul born and raised in South Louisiana. I am in my 3rd year at LSU, majoring in English - Creative Writing and minoring in German.

I am currently studying abroad in Marburg, Germany.
After college, I hope to continue writing, playing music, traveling, learning languages and eventually pursue an MFA in Creative Writing as well as teach. I'm excited to see what opportunities come my way and am just going with the flow at the moment.

I was raised on Bruce Springsteen, Miles Davis, The Police and The Beatles, and music has remained a major part of my life. I'm always open to new suggestions and love sharing what I know!

I work at KLSU Radio Station as a DJ and worked for a time as Music Director, Station Manager as well as FCC Monitor. I've worked as a cook/cashier/bartender at Zippy's Mexican restaurant for 4 years.

I'm always open to new ideas and experiences.
I'm easygoing and very easy to get along with.
I love traveling, adventure and randomness.
I try to live in the moment and soak up as much of life as I can.
I'm incredibly lucky and always thankful.

I'm always learning.

PHILOSOPHY

I am where I'm supposed to be. So smile, laugh and start a conversation with someone new. Be uncomfortable, feel challenged and don't panic. Things will be alright

Be kind. Say thank you. Little things make a person's day.

Engage in life without expectations; let yourself be surprised. Give people a chance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently traveling abroad, and cannot offer my couch. I will be traveling throughout May until July and hopefully couchsurfing during that time. When I get back to the States, I will open up my own couch or at least offer travelers in the area directions, advice or a cup of coffee.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had minimal couchsurfing experience so far, but I am looking forward to participating more in the coming months and years. Good friends have told me wonderful stories about their time spent couchsurfing, and I cannot wait to have similar experiences.

UPDATE: I have now successfully surfed in Amsterdam, Paris and Istanbul. I met some great people, partied on a Metro line in Paris and provided music (in exchange for delicious Turkish food and coffee) at my host's birthday house party in Istanbul.

Interests

I am a writer, singer, photographer and musician. I play in a band back home called Characters and participated in Drama and Choir all throughout highschool.
I love traveling, especially to concerts and Music festivals. I have been to Austin City Limits Festival in Texas for the past 5 years and Bonnaroo in Tennessee for the past 3. I'll be seeing Radiohead, The Cure, Bloc Party and more at Bilbao Music Fest in Spain this July (Super excited!).
Late night drives with the windows rolled down and music blaring make me happy.
My friends are important and make time for them.
I'm interested in physics, philosophy, and history.
German beer is a favorite (I'm going to miss it).
I enjoy running, hiking and biking and am glad to learning more and more about European football (It's much better than American football).

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh, goodness. There is quite a list. I'm an avid reader and music listener of all types (considering I want to be a writer/teacher and musician/producer)I've got to think about this one a bit more before I fill it out.

Right now what I'm listening to: It rotates everyday, currently hooked on the new Beach House, Chopin, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Neko Case, Laura Marling, M83, The National, Bon Iver, Kanye West, The Smiths, Blackalicious, early Bob Dylan, The Dodos, ect. ect.

What I'm reading now: Short Stories of Raymond Carver, American Hybrid: Norton Anthology of New Poetry, Rainer Maria Rilke, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Reading it again for this super interesting class on 9/11 and Trauma Theory), As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, On The Road by Jack Kerouac, Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut and I'm always rotating!

Movies: Away We Go, The Godfather, Elizabethtown, It Might Get Loud, Apocalypse Now, 2001: A Space Odyssey

TV Shows: I'm obsessed with Parks&Recreations and Mad Men. I also like Scrubs, Boy Meets World, anything that comes on the Science or Discovery Channel,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I need to think on this one a little bit more. Hmmm...

1. Spending my last night in Prague at an "invisible bar" called The Napa. I had made contact with a nice writer from the States who had been living there for thirteen years, and I spent the night drinking and talking at a giant, loud table cramped into this tiny bar. There was an impromptu all Czech band (Violin, Flute, 2 guitars, 2 stand-up basses) playing traditional Czech songs that everyone joined in for. I did not understand a word, and didn't have to. I was there, and a part of something beautiful until 4 AM.

2. Driving to Austin and back in one night to see one of my favorite artists, Sufjan Stevens, play. It was incredible (Saw him again a few months later in Georgia as well)

3. Roadtripping to Bonnaroo Music Fest in Tennessee three years in a row. Meeting wonderful people, seeing great music with my best friends, inviting others to join in the experience the next years.

4. 18 Hour train ride to Chicago with two of my good friends. Stumbling to the edge of Lake Michigan at 3 AM and looking out.

5. Bringing in 2012 with my band at a giant house party for a friend. We kicked it off with a cover of Prince's "Kiss".

6. Mardi Gras with my family for the past 20 years. What an excellent city to live right by. It's a place everyone should experience. I'll live there at some point. Couchsurfers will be welcome of course!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always looking to better the languages and to learn about new ones. English is my native tongue, so I have no problem offering any help if you want.

I write, play guitar and sing and love to share my knowledge of each, so don't be afraid to ask!
