About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To solve the mysteries of the human past in the hope of understanding the present and anticipate the future.

ABOUT ME

About me...hmmmmmmm. I rather say what I like:
Walking in the rain. Biking listening to music really loud. After a long day walking removing my shoes and socks. Singing in public places. Doing sand castles. Flying...love it. Drawing Leonardo style ( I wished ). Being surprised. Snow :), I miss those alps. Running after round objects.

PHILOSOPHY

Allow me to quote Bertrand Russell:

Three passions have governed my life:
The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of [humankind].

Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness.
In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision
Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined.

With equal passion I have sought knowledge.
I have wished to understand the hearts of [people].
I have wished to know why the stars shine.

Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens,
But always pity brought me back to earth;
Cries of pain reverberated in my heart
Of children in famine, of victims tortured
And of old people left helpless.
I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I can't help much since I am staying in a tiny room at a Student residence in Kiel. But I can help with advice giving, and in the future I hope to be of more assistance.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Twice once in Fribourg, once in Zaragoza and another in Nottingham.

Interests

Easier to say what I am not interested in. Anything that constitutes an insult to human intelligence. Anything that imposes their believes on others. I am also not interested when it comes to interior design, fashion, rugby, Benny Hill, remakes of classic movies, ...

Music, Movies, and Books

As for movies one big favorite: The Seventh Seal. But there are a million others. Give me Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman and I am a very happy guy. I have a thing for French movies and American oldies.

Music, without it life would be a mistake. And without Bach life would be pointless, without Mozart a big bore, and without Wagner life would make a lot more sense.

And when it comes to books, the Bard, the Bard and the Bard. And from the Bard ... Hamlet. As for the rest...
Oscar Wilde, Fernando Pessoa ( his poetry ohhhhhhhhh), Florbela Espanca (the poet of love). The old dusty Greeks. As long as it is a good and intelligent book I am happy. Because "of human stupidity even the gods are afraid".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Working in an archaeological excavation in Greece, in a place called Karphi on the island of Crete. The site was a mountain, that had to be climbed every day. We went up at 5h00, and from there we saw the sun rise, and every morning it looked different. To the north we could see the Mediterranean and far away islands, to the south the amazing Lasithi plateau with its thousands of windmills. The weather was always an unknow, sometimes we would be suffering from the cold wind and covered by a blanket of mist that rose from the coast. Other times we sweat under a scorching sun. We had to negotiate rough cliffs, and to keep away the goats that would invade our trenches. But there was no greater excitement than exposing history hidden for the past 4000 years, and while amazed with the uniqueness of the objects I saw, being further amazed with how simillar people are and have always been.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy sharing but I have to confess that teaching is not one of my strong points. My background is in Computation and Physics. I am currently doing a PhD in Physics but I am also very much interested in Classical HIstory and Archaeology, often taking part in projects in these fields.
